reliance on the contest model: absolves publishers of editorial and sales responsibilities; creates a pay-to-play system; reinforces unnecessary and unhealthy scarcity models; is actually not good for poets, publishers, or readers as the only/primary publishing path
i have been on this for YEARS so i am not going into mega detail at the moment but yall know where to find me when we’re finally ready to come together and build up poetry publishing to do better by the whole damn ecosystem
poets and poetry have accepted some kind of lesser status in the publishing world for no good reason. and we’ve turned the harm on our own for too long
