I had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before someone tried to claim that ‘Princess and the Frog is just as bad as Song of the South’.
Song of the South isn’t the ultra-racist film a lot of people think it is, but the biggest problem is how ambiguous it is about the whole situation. It never actually addresses the elephant in the room. Also, it’s painfully boring outside of the animated sequences.
Song of the South is a movie that should’ve been lost to obscurity, but largely because of the decision to use it for Splash Mountain, wasn’t.
There’s several other examples of offensive stereotypes in older Disney films, most notably the crows from Dumbo and the whole ‘Red Man’ sequence from Peter Pan. Those are both... Painful to watch, but both movies overall are so good that you it’s possible to still enjoy them.
The same really can’t be said for Song of the South. It has some good stuff in it, but not nearly enough to make it worth it actually releasing.
I know I started this thread off by saying “it’s not THAT bad” but don’t get me wrong, it’s still BAD.

I think how bad it is has been overblown by its’ weird status as an urban legend, but there’s a damn good reason why it’s not available.
