How Arsenal should now approach and operate in the Transfer Market this summer, due to our current situation.

A thread.
One thing I’ve noticed with Arsenal fans of recent is that we’re all fixated on big name signings to solve our problems, wherever that is on the pitch. We’ve been signing big names for years, and this is where it stems from.
Realistically, signing big names this summer won’t be an option. We’ll need to go deeper into the market to find young, hungry and talented players on the cheap, which won’t be those ‘big names’ that Arsenal fans crave so much; myself included.
Over the past 15 years, Arsenal have undoubtedly declined in quality on the pitch. Back then, a ‘small name’ signing would go a long way, as we’d seen these such players transform into some of the best players in the country, and Ian Wright is a prime example of this.
But since then, we’ve signed a whole host of ‘small names’ which haven’t turned out to be what we expected. Chamakh, Gervinho, Santos and Squillaci, just to name a few.
Because of this, Arsenal fans have become fixated on ‘big name’ signings, as we know we need experienced quality to give us instant success on the pitch.
However, we know this really isn’t possible due to our current situation, as well as losing a lot of UCL money over the past 3 years. Therefore we’re going to have to make these ‘underwhelming’ signings in order to improve our squad.
A good plan would be to go to clubs that will be relegated this season, where acquiring players from these such clubs will be somewhat easier due to the reduced prices following relegation.
Players like Max Aarons, Jack Grealish (bit ambitious) and Todd Cantwell are all brilliant options, should they get relegated.
The lack of ‘big name’ signings may anger some Arsenal fans, and the finger will, as always, be pointed at Kroenke, but this is what we’re going to have to do in this current situation that we’re in.
We may sign one ‘big name’ such as Thomas Partey, which is looking increasingly likely, but that will most likely be all in terms of signings like these.
Arsenal fans, myself included, have been stuck in this mindset that we need to sign ‘big’ players for big money in order for them to be any good, but that isn’t always the case.
For example, Adama Traoré was a failure at Middlesbrough, but since he’s come to the the Wolves, with the right coach and the right system, he looks like a totally different player - a prime example of how flops can turn into excellent footballers, with the right environment.
To conclude, Arsenal fans need to realise that ‘big names’ are not always the answer, regardless of how desperately we want them. The rebuild will take time, and we’re all going to have to be patient and trust the manager with the signings he makes.
This thread has taken some time to write so would really appreciate all RTs and likes to spread it around and get more people reading it.
I’d also love to hear you guys’ thoughts on this! If you’ve made it this far, I appreciate it, it’s quite a long read but hopefully gives you an insight into what my opinions are on how Arsenal should operate in the market, and how we, as fans, should react. #COYG
