The fact that a long-time Senator could tweet something like this is a sign of how far off the political map the GOP has gone. I'm not talking about the incomprehensible syntax, I'm talking about the unapologetic embrace of authoritarian propaganda techniques. https://twitter.com/ChuckGrassley/status/1276857731593277444
a) Grassley assumes Fox News's job is to get the President re-elected. Of course that's how Fox News sees its job, BUT YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO SAY THAT PART OUT LOUD!
b) Grassley admits his dear leader is incoherent, but he doesn't blame him, he blames Hannity for not saving him.
c) Chuck Grassley, whose job is to represent the best interests of the people of his state, is chastising a media outlet for letting the leader of his party speak freely, and not doing damage control for what that leader said.
Grassley is not mad about Trump's inability to offer a remotely coherent answer to a softball question from a softball interviewer, instead he's outraged about the insufficient sycophancy of Sean freaking Hannity.
Here's what a Senator in a constitutional democracy would have said. "I was disappointed that the President's interview on Fox News did not make the case for his reelection as effectively as it could have. Don't forget, this election is about the judiciary and regulatory reform."
Instead, Grassley implies that the only thing that matters is the reelection of dear leader (not what dear leader will be doing for the polity); and that it is the primary job of a media outlet to serve that predetermined, partisan end. Any pretense to public service is gone.
In Grassley's world, it's not just unacceptable that Fox News might be critical of the President on behalf of the public...that goes without saying...but it's also unacceptable that Fox News not do everything it can to make the President look as good as possible.
Maybe Grassley thinks Fox's new slogan for 2020 should be "I'm With Him-mler."
