[cn abuse, rape]
Ami is one of the bravest people I know. To see institutions and businesses run feminist programming or co-sign campaigns against sexual harassment whilst continuing to do fuck all about abusers they employ and knowingly leaving staff vulnerable is frustrating https://twitter.com/serialmam/status/1276612748701564928

I know from friends who have worked at the a Tyneside that the business undergoes management and structural changes so often that even if there are attempts at addressing issues and making changes they're abandonned halfway through because of staff turnover and restructuring
I've had some pretty hideous experiences myself whilst I worked in the arts scene in the NE and have myself been abused by people still working in it. I've also heard so many horrific stories from people employed by restaurants & bars tangentially linked (owners run studios etc)
that do not surprise me. I rarely go out as it is (pre-pandemic) but there are places I refuse to go to because of how I have been treat there, how people who work their are treat and how their employees and staff in positions of power exploit said powers
I definitely do not want to patronise somewhere that knowingly employs abusers without also giving any care to even considering addressing it or safeguarding their staff.
What use is co-signing a campaign against sexual harassment if you hire someone previously fired for overstepping boundaries? If one of your managers is overheard bragging about only considering much younger women he is interested in sleeping with for roles?
Everyone I know has a story to tell about people still employed by arts orgs in the NE or businesses (bars) that align themselves with arts groups and individuals by screening films and putting on exhibitons
It's always left on the vulnerable and marginalised to speak out, then they eventually step away or are burnt out, whilst people continue to profit off exposing their own staff and patrons to alleged abusers and potential abuse
(yes i've had to tweet this from an anon account associated with a blink-182 podcast because i have had to anonymise and private all of my personal social media for speaking out about my own and systemic abuse before, but this thread is still valid)
