Glinner is perhaps the highest profile example of the bizarre fixation some of the bigot brigade have with trans people, but there are many, many other weirdos out their tanking their lives to obsess about other people's genitalia at 3am in the morning.
It's wildly unhealthy and "obsession" really is the best term to cover it. I don't believe it's pure grift, it's a consequence of being radicalised.
The same pattern seems to be emerging in JKR. She's online later, and seems to be becoming more and more fixated. These people are literally losing sleep thinking about other people's junk. It isn't healthy behaviour.
I don't think it's a mental illness, but more a mass hysteria, a feedback loop of radicalisation where they are feeding one another's obsession.
And of course once they've alienated everyone in their lives because they're not exactly pleasant to be around when all they can talk about is other people's genitals, all they have is each other, and their unhealthy behaviour is reinforced.
I think a lot about that bigot who made a post about how she'd spent hours watching trans porn to scientifically conclude trans women have curlier hair on their buttholes, and how she seemed to believe this was a normal thing to do.
And I guess it is normal for them. The 3am tweets are the stuff their sharing publicly, there are definitely thriving nocturnal group chats of obsessives discussing genitalia.
