Covid-19 has changed the landscape of business forever

A thread
🎯 Digital marketing

I believe that companies will shift a lot of their conventional marketing strategies to digital. At some point things will re open again, but a lot more hours will be spent at home because of the things people can access at home.
Also, because there was a need to reach people digitally, companies will see that this is actually a more efficient way to not only reach your audience, but track actions made after said interactions.

Take a billboard or newspaper ad for example,
Yes you know people have seen it, but you don’t know what action has been made after that. Alternatively, with a google or Facebook ad you can actually track sales made from specific ads via your analytics, it also gives you information on who resonates with the info sent!
🎯Grocery shopping
Amazon was one of the biggest winners during this pandemic, their overall supply chain efficiency meant that they could get the products and services you needed, to you and in a timely manner. Being creatures of habit, some people will stick to this.
Some companies like zoom and chegg were very well positioned to service their clients and potential customers during this pandemic, and a lot of businesses who were not, have adapted to survive, those that don’t, will struggle to survive.
🎯warehousing
I expect to see an increase in Just in time (JIT) production.
When demand for products dropped as a result of lockdowns, a lot of companies were stuck with a lot of dead weight inventory.
So a lot of companies have tried to incorporate a system that will reduce storage time, and give preference to products with longer shelf time.
🎯Employment
This is huge, reduced revenues and profit margins have meant that companies have reduced costs in order to survive, several people have lost jobs and suffered reduced salaries, with the hope to regain them when things “return to normal”
The question here is, has “normal” changed forever? I think so, this period has forced a deep level of introspection within institutions that will have a lot of companies function at much higher levels of efficiency and capacity utilization.
In other words, you might need to acquire new skills to return to your previous earnings, or be valuable in the job market! The one positive is down time gives each of us an opportunity to survey the environment to see what skills are now relevant, and how we can plug in.
🎯Meetings and presentations

This one is obvious lol
🎯supply chain
A lot of middle men are being cut out as wholesalers are looking to digital solutions to connect them woth consumers directly
In terms of making yourself more valuable, here are some skills I’d advice looking into:
✅Digital marketing
✅Coding (web and app dev)
✅Graphic design
✅PowerPoint and excel
✅Investment acumen(for yourself)
✅Supply chain
✅Social media optimization
