to the people invalidating, disrespecting and insulting hinduism and polytheism without educating yourselves first:
hinduism has always been a way of life, and while many things have been lost in translation and i can't explain them well in english without going fully in detail, i will try and explain some basic principles of the religion.
the basic concept, underneath all the mythology, is respecting and worshipping nature. it's about not taking the sun, the moon, the stars, the greenery, the animals for granted. it's respect and it's gratitude. it's the existence of yin and yang and the in-between of the two.
another basic concept is respect to people around us. hinduism believes that there's a force that created the universe, and a part of that force lies in everybody's hearts. it's the belief of victory of good over evil.
the third basic concept is science. the nine planets (navagrahas), the invention of the number zero, sundials, vedic math, yoga, ayurveda (medicinal science), theory of evolution, the list goes on. these are things that have been engraved into our literature.
now these three concepts have been explained to common people through mythology and gods, which i'll now begin to explain. i won't go into detail (you can always dm me if you want to know more).
respect to nature- our gods symbolise different parts of nature. ganesha represents the animal world. indra is the god of rain and storms. shakti is the earth. brahma is the creator, vishnu is the preserver, shiva is the destroyer.
respect to humans (1/2)- hinduism believes in the existence of goodness in everyone. translation- the existence of god in everyone's hearts. god is diverse. gods who are transgender, homosexual. goddesses who are so powerful and have destroyed demons. goddess of knowledge, wealth
respect to humans(2/2)- concepts of respecting humans and respecting everyone has been taught through myths and stories. stories of goddesses with dark skin, of why fat-shaming is bad, of why women can't be underestimated. stories explaining the significance of being humble.
science- many concepts of physics, astronomy and evolution are engraved in our mythology. navagrahas means the nine planets. the solar system. ayurveda is the ancient science of healing. dashavatar ("das"- ten, "avatar"- form, of the lord vishnu) explains the theory of evolution.
hinduism isn't abrahamic or mainstream in the world, but it can't be invalidated and insulted. no religion can be invalidated. this thread was made to explain the basic concept of hinduism to those who disrespect it without knowing what it is in the first place and i hope it-
-reaches out to those people and changes their minds.
