KP: A match winner
We all know @KP24 had a great test career..Though he had lesser number of ODI games than we all had expected, he proved himself time and again as one of the finest ODI batsmen England have ever produced.. (cntd)
So today, on his birthday, I am going to recall his top 5 ODI gem knocks which made me his fan forever.. my favourite 5 knocks of Kevin Pietersen in ODIs are:-
5) 90*(82) vs Southafrica, Headingley
This was the 1st odi of that series and both the sides wanted to start with a victory.. England were 86-2(21.3) when KP came to bat after both the openers Bell and prior were dismissed in a quick succession..(cntd)
Owais Shah lost his wicket when the team's score was 113 in the 29th over..so only 21 overs were remaining.. then the deadly duo of KP and Freddie formed a brilliant partnership and Eng went on to score 275.. fabulous display of strokeplay.. absolute CarnageđŸ”„đŸ”„
4) 104(122) vs Australia, Antigua
It's a dream of all cricketers do well for their teams in a wc..and how would one feel if he scores a wc century against the best side? Absolutely magical.. England were facing the mighty Aussies and had lost 2 quick wickets in 6 overs..(cntd)
KP came out to bat alongside Ian Bell and the duo formed an almost run a ball 140 runs stand for the 3rd Wicket..KP went on to score a fighting 104, but didn't get the support after the dismissal of Bell and Eng lost that match..but, that was a high class knock..
3) 130 vs Pakistan, Dubai
England were chasing 238.. but given the bowling attack of Pakistan especially consisting of 3 quality spinners in Ajmal at his peak, an impressive Abdur Rahman and an experienced Afridi on a sluggish Dubai track, it was challenging for sure..(cntd)
KP came out to open alongside cook..Eng were 68-4(16) at one stage.. Pietersen used all his experience and played a knock different from his reputation i.e 100 from 135 balls..he dealt with enormous patience and grit..and took his side home single-handedly..â€â€đŸ”„đŸ”„
2) 100(91) vs WI, Barbados
Again he played a gem of an innings..this time against Westindies..It was the last ODI game of the legend Brian Lara..WI set a more than decent target of 301.. England were doing well before losing 4 wkts in just 35 runs and slipping to 189 for 6..
KP was there..still 112 runs were required from 14 overs with 4 wickets in hand and Paul Nixon was the only other recognised batsman..In a situation like that, KP did what he was known for..counter attack..KP and Nixon ensured England's victory by one wkt in that thrilling game..
1) 91*(65) vs Australia, Bristol
If Shane Bond was the answer of New Zealand to Australia, Kevin Pietersen was the answer of England to that invincible Australian team..A young player just starting his career was facing the best attack in the world at that time..(cntd)
England were chasing 253 against the likes of McGrath, Gillespie, kasprowicz, Watson and Hogg..They were again on a trouble as their innings derailed to 160-6(37.4)..they needed 93 more to win from 74 balls..KP was there and Solanki joined him as the last recognised batsman
What followed next was not less than sheer dominance and literally he murdered the best bowling lineup that day..he was dealing with sixes and fours only..2 huge Hits off Jason Gillespie over long on.. man..what a counter attack that was..the best I hv seen from him..
The built of a model, tattooed arms, the swag comparable with the legendary sir Viv Richards, aggressive approach to the game and the never say die attitude.. Kevin Pietersen, you are a true champion..Once again a very very happy birthday @KP24
