im gonna say something thats been on my mind for a very long time, hopefully this makes sense
ive been thinking about internet culture lately and the more i think about it the more depressing it gets.. at this point, the internet has become so huge that it spills over and influences the real world (duh obviously)
at some point during the internet's life, on some pocket of the internet, it became common for people to start lambasting each other for having opinions that were different from others. over the years this behavior became commonplace everywhere. and it just got worse and worse.
fast forward to now, you probably see where i'm going with this. you will be ostracized, publicly shamed, and embarrased for saying anything that differs from a certain person's (or an entire community's) point of view. it is highly toxic, volatile, and just plain stressful tbh
now, let me tell you a little mini story. i used to be an all lives matter kinda person back when ferguson happened. i didnt understand black lives matter at the time, i genuinely thought that all lives should matter (which, of course, is a given, because thats how it should be)
because of how highly violent and scary people were being with their points of view and the riots and protests... i got upset. i didnt understand why people were going absolutely batshit and it was never explained to me. ofc i understand now, i get it, but i hope you see my point
here's what im trying to get at: if you voice your opinions in an insanely aggressive and vindictive manner, nobody will want to change their views. there is no point to your words because you are actively seeking agression. you are at that point preaching to the choir.
if you voice your opinions in such a way where it generates a kneejerk reaction from people who arent on your side, you are doing it wrong.
another story: i never understood ACAB until recently. why, WHY would you name your movement ACAB???? now that i know what its actually about, i understand that it is a good cause, but.. come on. NOBODY on the other side will agree with you if you keep spouting all cops are bad.
(^ maybe naming your movement defund the police would be better.) anyway. i dont think this thread will do much, its really just my thoughts going out into the twitter void for nobody to see. but it helps me organize my thoughts.
try to treat the people your trying to convince like humans. everyone forgets that all of us want to see a better future for humanity. why have we started villianizing people for having different points of view?
of course, i shouldnt say this but i will anyway to clarify, if the person your speaking to is ignorant, there's no hope. you have the green light to be mean. ignorant people are my number fucking one pet peeve.
anyway i hope my point kinda came across okay thats all i had to say. i just have been real fucking upset and mad lately and this is kinda therapeautic
