Seeing a lot of despair on here about Irish politics and I have to say I don't agree at all! This coalition is a ramshackle creation led by a man who's party is polling at 13%. The left opposition is the largest in history. We have a real chance here in the next few years!
If you're a left wing Green member/voter, I get it. This is a bad day for you. For everyone else this is an incredible opportunity to build something. And remember, to hold onto power the political establishment has depended on people like you emigrating for the last century
We should be talking tactics, strategy, new political formations, new leadership in old ones. Unions, strikes, building power in communities and workplaces, coordinating platforms and a million other things that I'm not qualified to say!
Also, and I include myself in this, the weary cynicism, the moody apocalypticism has gotten us precisely fucking nowhere in the last ten years so it might be time to do something else. Being right doesn't matter a fucking damn. There are no prizes for it, and no solace in it
If you think the only serious, useful, reachable people are the ones in your own quite small political organisation, I'm sorry but you have already given up
On a final note: they have a Dáil majority of 4 lol. The 2011 FG-Lab coalition had a majority of 30.
