So I thought long and hard before doing this thread. I think Trump is in trouble. I follow both @JesseKellyDC and @KurtSchlichter, and much as it pains me to agree with a Marine over a soldier; I think Colonel Schlichter is wrong. I don't think the enemy is imploding.
Bear with me during this Melle Rant. I'm sure I will offend some of Trump's most ardent supporters. Most of you who follow me, know that I didn't vote for him- and I really don't like the man. But the enemy of my enemy and all that.
I think Trump is in trouble. I couldn't care less about Trump or his legacy, but I truly think this election comes down to the battle between Westernized Democracy & Marxism. In short, if the left wins this one; than the USSR will have won decades after they broke up.
@KurtSchlichter premise is that if the enemy is beating itself; you sit back and watch; and by default win. The problem is that I don't think that is happening. Look at the support for BLM, an openly Marxist group who funds ACTBLUE. Money that is funneled back to leftist groups
I also don't think that the average voter who isn't politically active like much of Twitter cares about ANY of this. I think they just want it all to stop. While we all know this crap is imploding in Democratic cities; most independents OUTSIDE those cities may not care.
You can nuance why none of this is all Trump's fault, but in the end he is the face of what is happening in this country. Tweeting and talking tough isn't going to cut it. People want it stopped. It isn't stopping under Trump; so maybe try Biden.
The desire to "return to normal" is very strong. People largely just want to be left alone and will try to vote for any candidate that makes their INDIVIDUAL life comfortable. When Trump was facilitating that via the economy; he was that guy.
While not Trump's fault, the economy absolutely sucks. What the virus didn't kill, the looters and rioters buried. Biden is a known, and many people have seen 3 years of fighting. The media's narrative is that Trump is a divider, and I fear that will resonate with independents.
You can't run on "vote for me I made the economy great a year ago" or "vote for me I will stop the infighting, looting and rioting" if the perception is that you've had the chance and have done nothing to actually stop it. The American voter's attention span is short.
Americans will vote for a known entity they are comfortable with, but right now people are losing their jobs, their savings and businesses. People are getting sick. No one is comfortable right now. While Obama actually sucked for America, he was "comfortable and known."
Biden is an extension of that. And sorry MAGA, but Trump really is a crap communicator. Dunking and tweeting was amusing when America was prospering, but now that America is on fire; communication needs to be more measured and FRICKING more effective.
Republicans have ALWAYS had to be better communicators, because the media twists everything. This has been jacked up to 1000% in the last few years. The media narrative is loud and 24 hours long. Trump needs to communicate a light at the end of the tunnel and then ACT.
Trump needs to articulate the underlying reason why statutes are being torn down. GOP IN GENERAL need to stop pandering and start articulating WHY Marxism is bad. FFS, BLM is more popular than our political parties, and they are avowed Marxist who are actually an ext. of DNC.
Police reform is great, & is badly needed, but we are ceding the narrative to people like Pelosi & Schumer who can't even get George Floyd's name right. If you don't believe me about the narrative- Cuomo modern day "HERO" who has a state with 40% of Covid deaths-media says so..
The media is hammering Texas and Florida about the rise in deaths, but LA County has the largest number of cases right now. The people that Trump needs outside his base don't pay attention. They don't look it up. They only see CNN's "OMG, GOP states killing people w/ Covid."
They don't know how many decades these cities under fire have been under Democrat thumb and they don't know that BLM happened under Biden's VP; and yet he did absolutely NOTHING regarding police brutality. Right now, that's Trump's responsibility, right or wrong.
You have to reach those people. They have to understand why tearing down statutes isn't just a bunch of pissed off college students. It's an actual movement to start a revolution. You have to articulate the dangers ahead. I don't think Trump or the GOP are doing that.
Even more so, you have to stop this crap. The GOP has ceded EVERY major institution to the left. The left works in incrementalism and what we are seeing is that bear fruition. The time is not to sit back now; the time is to be what the GOP really is- the counter culture.
We are the rebellion. The DNC is "the man." It's time to fight, and fighting isn't tweeting. It's not talking tough and then ceding the narrative to the media. I don't know the answer. I just know that I'm not optimistic. I think the left is getting EXACTLY what it wants.
Trump was elected, because the GOP was feckless, and "he fought." Where is that fight? If the left wins, the lesson they will take from this is that Marxism is selling to America. They can win by a very thin margin and they will see a mandate.
That's is scary. The "squad" is a joke until it runs the country. These people are serious. They hate America, and think it needs to be torn down. They don't want equality or justice; they want revenge. Tweeting a dunk isn't going to cut it.
The enemy isn't imploding. It's getting exactly what it has sown & wanted for decades. Someone w/ some real balls on the GOP side better start fight & incite regular Americans to fight, or Trump doesn't just lose-America does. It pains me to say this, but @JesseKellyDC is right.
