*thread: guys, @shanedawson has made some horrible decisions in the past. they are inexcusable and vile. i don’t believe in cancelling someone for things they’ve done in the past, especially when times were incredibly different, but i understand WHY u are. but here’s why i won’t:

1. he is a white cis male and most of his decisions were made while he was in his 20s. age is not an excuse, but it is worthy to mention he wasn’t as wise (in terms of what was ok in humor and what wasn’t).
2. the entire social media community was pressuring, esp. on him.

3. he was/is a mentally ill man. i am mentally ill. i know how it feels to be degraded so intensely for past decisions. i’m not going to put someone through that.
4. while his jokes have not been ok, he has always made an attempt to learn from his mistakes. he never has-

- had ill intent and he has been influenced by both the internet and people his entire career, which everybody can admit can be toxic. he tries his hardest to recover from mistakes and to not repeat history.
5. i’m not calling this cancel culture/drama- but i do think a large-

- part of WHY he’s being dragged rn is because of cancel culture (tati and james controversy). i don’t think he would do that to him. he was heavily influenced by people in his life, regardless of if you support @JeffreeStar and others or not, you cannot deny that. i think he-

- was roped into the controversy.

all in all, choices make your character. you regret your choices. you apologize for your choices. the choice to apologize changed your character. he’s not a criminal and if you don’t support him that’s fine- but don’t say he’s a horrible-

person online. imagine having something horrible you’ve done being mentioned by the entire world for forever, even if you’ve attempted to mend what you’ve done. you’d feel like a terrible human being. just... if you’re purely degrading someone and not exposing an issue that is-

not being handled purely because you want to make them feel horrible- trust me. they regret it. they feel horrible enough.
i might sound like an asshole, and you’re entitled to that belief. but i’m attempting to be a neutral ground whilst voicing my beliefs-

. he made racist comedy choices. he made pedophilic comedy choices. the list continues. he apologized for those actions. he has actively attempted to not do those actions again. he should be forgiven, but those choices should not be forgotten. it’s human nature to evolve-

and in order to evolve you have to make mistakes.
