1. One more much briefer statement. I am not surprised or angry if you found Rowland's statement shocking or disappointing. In fact, you have every right to remain disappointed with me even after my explanation and assertions.
2. It's easy to say "this is my private life, and it's nobody's business" but one effect of my carelessness was to allow that private life to touch public life. That would not have happened if I had made more responsible decisions to begin with.
3. All of need to understand that our actions reflect upon the communities we move in- in my case, reflect upon my publishers, my editors and agents, my friends, my readers, the advocates and booksellers who have carried me so far. None of you deserve to have to waste time and
4. consternation and emotional labor as a result of my mistakes. I deeply regret that; I am at fault for giving you pause and causing you grief and frustration.
5. There are two types of apologies: The ones you make when you just wish something would go away, and the ones you make when you know the asshole buck has stopped on your desk, and you need to own it, because it's simple truth. I hope this is the second kind.
6. Regardless of the complications of the situation, the fact remains that I kicked this mess off and eventually brought it into public by fucking up. I am grievously sorry for this and sorry for those that I have disappointed.
