I have a crazy goal tonight, which is to blow a ton of our $1952 Economic Impact Card on small medical GoFundMe& #39;s that I can fully fund. GFM& #39;s site & search **suck** so I will probably rely on searching Twitter and seeing what I randomly come up with.
(Seriously, @gofundme, if you are listening, FIX YOUR SEARCH FUNCTION. I want slider bars for how old the campaign is; how close to goal; how big the goal; and how "popular" a campaign is. FIX IT.)

Wow, I have to admit, I was about to blow the rest of the ~$300 on someone and then I looked at their Twitter and... no, I& #39;m sorry, I can& #39;t. This is why capricious people with random money shouldn& #39;t be in charge of who gets healthcare!! I am the problem!! We are all the problem!!

What I& #39;ve learned is that trying to help people who need help in this country feels like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon, as Melissa McEwan used to say. And it& #39;s impossible not to have your own biases slip in.
For instance, I searched for diabetics& #39; GFM& #39;s, but I rejected the diabetes service dogs fundraisers, because... I think diabetes service dogs are kinda dumb? CGMs are more reliable & less of a hassle. Just as an example of the multitude of biases I brought into this process.
And honestly you can get sucked into some really negative headspaces with this stuff if you kind of want to give but it seems like the person isn& #39;t "needy" enough. We have deeply ingrained, deeply fucked-up ideas about worthiness implanted in us at a young age.
At the end of the day, I& #39;ll remind myself of the same thing I always remind myself of when it comes to direct-action charity: we& #39;re in the (I think) 86th percentile of income in Maryland. Chances are, anyone asking needs the money more than we do. So, give & don& #39;t worry too much.
