“Demons” are the worst thing to be embraced by the ghost hunting community, because they don’t just eliminate personal responsibility on the part of the “haunted” to perform some deep introspection on their habits, traumas, and illness that are likely the cause of the phenomena..
..but “demons” also place religion as the safety mechanism by which all supernatural problems can be solved. Sure, calling in a priest might work to rid you of whatever shadow is haunting you, but it’ll just return and you’ll need them again. Know what works better? Therapy.
“Demons” allow you to abuse people, maintain addictions, harbor trauma, leave mental illnesses untreated, and not take responsibility. They allow grifters to exploit you. The real battle in “demonic hauntings” isn’t between light and dark, it’s between you and your own shadow.
This is why I really don’t entertain stories about “demons”, at least in the Christian sense of the term, because what those accounts say to me is that someone is being exploited, refusing to be accountable, or just lying to tell a scary story.
And before anyone gets pendantic, I’m not talking about classical demons, goetic demons, daemons, etc, I’m speaking strictly about the Ed and Lorraine Warren, only god can solve this, The Exorcist demons embraced by ghost hunters making spoopy YouTube videos.
