Here's how the fight for breakfast democracy unravelled: In 2004, Kellogg's ran a "presidential election" between Cheki (for stronger choco flavour) and Chaka (for green onion), saying they would make the cereal that had the most votes.

It was a given that kids, who supposedly hate green onion, would vote for Cheki (choco) to win. Oh how wrong they were. Online votes (ie ballot stuffing) went ahead, and to the horror of Kellogg's, Chaka (green onion) emerged with a clear lead.

So Kellogg's, who hadn't anticipated this, stopped online voting, and deleted 42,000+ votes, but even that wasn't enough to make green onion lose which was still 6,000+ votes ahead of chocolate. So they opened up phone/offline voting, and eventually declared Cheki the winner.

Koreans decried foul play, undemocratic election fraud. Chaka went down in internet meme history as a symbol of the struggle for (breakfast) democracy.

Fast forward 16 years, and Kellogg's finally made the shock announcement that it would fulfil the people's wishes & release a green onion Chex breakfast cereal. Coming back to the brilliant ad featuring trot singer Tae Jin-ah. Kellogg's profusely apologises for the lateness in releasing the green onion flavour cereal.

It portrays the broken hearts and dreams of children who were scammed into thinking they would get a green onion cereal in 2004, still crying 16 years later.

In the ad, Kellogg's say that they will stick to their promise to release the green onion flavour cereal, "even if it doesn't sell". Can't wait to taste it. LOL!
