Welcome to another history thread....... I just found something about the Cardinal Mindszenty Foundation with their work which overlaps with the racial conservatism and foreign policy of the time......
For #BlackLivesMatter and to #twitterstorians, you might want to see how the quest for racial struggle is interconnected worldwide......... including the racial status quo people....
If you have watched @MrsAm_FXonHulu ( #MrsAmerica), you know that Eleanor Schlafly ran the Cardinal Mindszenty Foundation which opposed communism in all it's forms......
One form of communism they saw was in the U.N Genocide Convention, a landmark human rights treaty in which countries are advised to prevent and punish actions of genocide in war and in peacetime........
U.S Conservatives opposed it based on the idea that it would mean Americans would be tried under a world court with no protections and that genocide would be defined too broadly in even the littlest of cases...
One of this is based on criticisms is based on segregation.....
The CMF sent this out in 1970 in response to the Genocide Convention and it says a lot about what they think of race.....
They mention Shirley Chisholm (played by @UzoAduba) and many African-Americans in this news release as being part of radicals and play up a fear of the U.S being tried for their racial policies towards minorities........ By the way, the convention would not actually apply in this
I reccomend @SamanthaJPower and Elizabeth Gillepsie Macrae's books for more on this..... They actually give more a full in depth account for this......
Also, I wish #MrsAmerica could have gone into detail into Eleanor Schlalfy and the Cardinal Mindszenty Foundation's work....
I hope this thread contributes to a part of the discussion on race and to any historians ( #twitterstorians) who want to contribute such as @rickperlstein, @SassyProf, @SpruillMarjorie, @ProRoMo, @PMatzko, & @KevinMKruse..... please do!
To reiterate, this shows how interconnected the quest for racial struggle is in terms of both domestic and foreign policy and it's quite insightful.....
