I'm not even going to bother pointing out hannity's homophobia. Instead, I'd like to point out WHY this was the case.

Because of rampant homophobia in the 20th Century, almost every gay person was closeted. Because of this, gay people were often VERY easy to blackmail. 1/4

Taking the above facts into consideration, here's a history lesson: The Soviet Union, realizing that gay rights really only had a home left of center, spent a lot of time and money infiltrating gay rights and gay support organizations. They actively sought out gay people 2/4

who were in the military, government, major tech corporations or just anyone with access to useful intel and assets. They would use any method to acquire this blackmail, including honeypots. So once they had the blackmail, the closeted gay person was open to coercion. 3/4

In doing so, they intentionally perverted places that should provide comfort to queer people and created an environment of fear within an already-marginalized community. We were considered a security risk because our marginalization made us easy prey for disgusting coercion. 4/4

For the record: All that shit up there is just reason no. 348 that Soviet apologism instantly sets me off. They criminalized queerness at home and set back the LGBT rights movement here.
