So I& #39;ve finally left the Labour Party. Nail in the coffin wasn& #39;t the sacking of RLB per se, but rather the recognition (already there in the background) that the @socialistcam and the Labour left generally just doesn& #39;t have the tools or analysis to meaningfully resist the right.
Perhaps even more damning is that the Labour left just hasn& #39;t learnt the most basic lesson from the last 4 years. That if you want to win, you can& #39;t play by the standard rules of the game. That, sometimes, you have to fight ugly, maybe even take a risk.
The SCG has some good people in it, but I get the feeling that even they, when push comes to shove, will put their careers above principle. And that& #39;s a shame, because, despite being the minority within the PLP, they& #39;ve always enjoyed preponderant support within the membership...
As in, there& #39;s always been more scope than assumed for taking a risk, doing those media briefings, calling out the right/Starmer etc, talking direct to members and galvanising the base.
I guess they may yet develop this capacity, but every opportunity seems to slip by. Like now, with the egregious sacking of RLB, we could and should expect huge mobilisation from this grouping. But instead we have a petition and polite zoom chat with Sir Keir. Aaagh
