Every time the UCP is exposed for their recent homophobic and transphobic sentiments among current leaders and staff, they recycle a 52-year-old quote from a man who was dead before most millennials were born. #ableg #abpoli https://twitter.com/MattWolfAB/status/1276637060007202816
This man never worked for an NDP government in Alberta. He was never paid by the Alberta taxpayer. This is an emotive red herring.
The quote is from a time when homosexuality was criminalized, and this was part of the movement's argumentation for decriminalization. For context, the conservative leader at the time, Robert Stanfield, voted against the amendments to decriminalize homosexuality.
Another conservative MP opposing decriminalization said that the bill to decriminalize was “for queers and fairies.”
This is not at all to excuse the quote. It is to demonstrate the irrelevance of their deflection. The examples among UCP staff and leaders all took place within the last 30 years.
But instead of setting the record straight by stating clearly their support for LGBTQ rights today and how they will advance those rights with actions, ...
... they deploy pure deflection by drumming up out-of-context statements from 20 years before Canada's first out MP, from 47 years before Alberta's first elected openly gay MLAs.
Receipts on UCP's recycling of the talking point:

To my knowledge, however, the staffer's Tweet quoted at the top of this thread is the first time Alberta taxpayers have paid a UCP staffer to deploy this demeaning and condescending deflection.
