HARD.

SAME.

There's a set of disorders that only exist in the public consciousness as punchlines.

I literally can't experience time like you. I can't feel rewarded like you. I can't remember like you.

My brain is a car with no steering or brakes. Just gas, lights, and wipers. https://twitter.com/HowtoADHD/status/1276580253075247105
I still have to steer. You get this fancy wheel, where you tell it where to go, and all of these automatic things happen to make the car turn.

I have had to figure out how to steer without any of that.

What, do I just try to lean out of the door and shift my weight to turn?
Brakes? BRAKES?

IN THIS HOUSE WE AIM FOR HILLS.

"But I thought you said you couldn't steer, how do you aim?"

YES, YOU ARE BEGINING TO GRASP THE PROBLEM.
The steering, in this metaphor, is executive function.

You need to do the dishes, so you do them. You're not aware of the steps your brain goes through to motivate your individual body parts to do the thing.

I do it manually. I have to choose to be motivated to stand up.
Not choose to stand up, mind. That's easy.

I have to choose TO BE ABLE to stand up. To be motivated. To recognize that I must do so, and connect that to an action my body takes.

NO STEERING. ALL MANUAL.
Anyway here's wonderwall
