Seiner, but they’re actually childhood friends. They got along really well as kids and even considered each other their best friend. Seifer had this “huge” play set in his backyard that they would climb on and make up these adorable games on. Things were easier back then
But because I have no self control, one of them moved away and, obviously, the other was sad. They grew up and grew apart, and didn’t see or hear from eavh other until *blows trumpet* they move back into town~
I wanna say Hayner moves back into town. He’s excited to see how everything’s changed and to meet up with his old friends. Olette, Pence, and Roxas are all the same, his former classmates are happy to see him, and it almost feels as though he never left

Almost

One thing changed
He sees Seifer again, and he’s...definitely changed. He’s not the same wide eyed kid who believed everything was possible anymore. He’s quieter, but angrier. Rude. Aggressive. Annoying as hell. This isn’t the boy he remembers and he’s not sure he wants to be friends with him
He does want to try, at least once. They attempt a conversation, but it’s extremely awkward and makes them both uncomfortable. That’s okay, because maybe they need to adjust?

Adjusting takes a long time

After several weeks of being really anxious and feeling out of place-
they have their first argument. It’s loud and cruel and Hayner is one hundred percent sure he doesn’t want to be his friend anymore. So he says this. Seifer doesn’t seem to care. It hurts, but he’ll move on. There are tons of other people who are nicer, more considerate
Avoiding him seems to be the best option, and he does well in this for a while. But, when you’re forced to be in the same place with someone for multiple hours a day (school) you’re bound to run into them at some point. And they do
It gets harder to avoid each other, and because of their tempers and this ***need*** to pick with one another, they keep starting fights. And that becomes their dynamic for a really long time
But one day, for some reason idk yet, Hayner finds himself alone and in need of help. Maybe homework, maybe something requiring physical effort again not sure, but Seifer is there. He sees him struggling and feels the need to help. Another argument happens because-
Hayner absolutely does not need his help, but Seifer just tells him to shut up and stays. So Hayner lets him. Helping turns into talking, and it’s the first pleasant conversation that they’ve had in years. Hayner asks him why they couldn’t have done this before, Seifer says-
something very bastard-like and it...actually makes him laugh? And Seifer is surprised, but he ends up laughing too. The pleasant conversation continues, and they both agree that, if things could continue like this, they can try again

But I am not done https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😌" title="Erleichtertes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Erleichtertes Gesicht">
Seifer and Hayner are friends again https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz"> And it’s actually a really good friendship, better than before. Seifer constantly pushes Hayner to be better while Hayner seems to be the only one who can get Seifer to relax. Seifer encourages him in his own blunt, shithead way, Hayner-
doesn’t take his shit and tells him when he’s being a jerk and needs to take it down several notches. They listen to one another, and they become something of a team.

Of course it takes a while for others to adjust to them being friends again, but they do
Senior year happens because I am a whore for prom shit. Hayner is not, though. The idea of prom is ehhhh not his thing. People keep expecting him to ask out some girl and he’s Not Going To Do That because Hayner, when he thinks about it, doesn’t even like girls. Like Olette is-
cool but he wouldn’t consider dating her. So he sits awkwardly while everyone else buzzes about it and he feels so out of place.

He goes to Seifer, who feels the same way. They joke about prom for a while before Seifer comes up with the bright idea to skip it all together. They-
don’t really want or need to go, so why not just stay home and ay some games? Their parents are disappointed to hear it, but they allow them to stay home.

They pile up at Seifer’s house, in the living room, with horror games an snacks.
Hayner realizes a little too late that horror games are not his thing. He can watch movies but actually being in the protagonist’s shoes freaks him out a little too much. So he lets Seifer play and watches him. After a while, he gets tired and leans against Seifer’s shoulder.
Seifer gets a bit of a headache, so he shuts the game off and turns on some random show and lets it play every episode in the season. They mention prom again, and Seifer finally asks Hayner “the real reason” why he didn’t go. Hayner tries to-
make up a bullshit excuse but he can’t get very far with it because “I can tell when you’re lying.” So Hayner admits, under his breath, that he didn’t want to because he didn’t want to take a girl. Seifer gives him shit for it at first, but then validates him.
To Hayner’s surprise, Seifer tells him that he “kinda knew he wasn’t into girls like that” and Hayner does not believe him. Because HE didn’t even know. Seifer gives him more shit because it was pretty obvious to him. And that leads to a playful argument.
There’s pushing, shoving, lighthearted insults, and Hayner’s sure that he’s having a better time sitting on that couch than he ever would have dressed up in some ugly tux standing in a building he hated.

Seifer tells him he’s glad they didn’t go. Hayner is too
And maybe there’s something about the way Seifer looks at him in that moment. Maybe the smile, maybe the words or how they’re said, but *something* makes him lean forward. Seifer leans in as well.

Hayner has his first kiss. And, well, he definitely does not like girls
