If everyone who says they want to ban single use plastic voluntarily stopped buying single use plastic -- the reduction would be much greater than an impossible to implement Gov order. But people don't want to take personal responsibility or privately practice what they preach.
I respect vegans on this. Vegans have shown the power of voluntary change in personal consumption, as a tool to drive mass market change. How? Vegans don't buy meat. And they don't buy it privately when no one is looking, either. All without banning meat, the last several years
has seen an explosion in meat free options at every chain. Vegans are now a massive market share. If you think banning single use plastics is good, stop buying them. Stop ordering from Amazon. Stop buying takeout. Stop asking Gov to make up for your lack in personal discipline.
I am a complete hypocrite on this when it comes to factory farmed meat. I think it's terrible & unethical. Yet I still hit up McDonald's when I'm weak & need a McChicken to eat my feelings. I am creating market demand for factory farmed meat & feed into its success. That's on me.
