This is DAY TEN that the Gazette-Mail has not been granted a question to the Governor. We have emailed others in the administration. We have called. We have left voicemails. We have filed FOIAs. Rarely do we get responses unless the law requires it.
Our readers deserve better.
Today, some of my questions would have been:
- What is the timeline for CARES Act money to be distributed?
- How, specifically, have roads suffered in the COVID-19 pandemic?
- How is DHHR functioning without a Health Officer? Who is doing Dr. Slemp's job in the interim?
The only other person not to get a q today was @_aizaguirre. That's not abnormal, and it's not fair to his readers either.
When will the Governor answer publicly to his people? When does @WVPress step in and demand more transparency and access for all of us in the press corps?
This is not the first time our paper has been blacklisted by Justice's administration, but it has never occurred in the middle of a pandemic when our readers -- his constituents -- deserve to have their questions asked and their leadership pressed for truth. This is not a joke.
