I may not always immediately unfollow/unfriend your abuser. I will, however, mobilize to remove your abuser from roles where they are building a platform + preying on people.
with collective action and consequences, we can constrain an abuser’s ability to cause more harm.

we can practice an abolitionist politic and reject punishment + disposability, while maintaining that people actively engaging in abusive behaviors have no place in our movement spaces.

people who cause harm, and even people who abuse, deserve support in navigating accountability and changing harmful + oppressive behaviors. they don’t *deserve* a microphone, a podcast, or a magazine.
consequences can create a context for behavior change.

consequences for gendered violence don’t occur naturally in a cis heteropatriarchal society. if anything, oppressive behaviors are promoted and encouraged (see: the white house). we have to actively work to disrupt oppressive behaviors + create consequences to keep people safe.
I don’t want to build a world where people who cause harm are isolated or shielded by their enablers. I want to build a culture of accountability and care where we are called on to take responsibility for harm we cause + take action toward transformation and repair.
also lets be real: most of the time, I will unfollow, block, troll their online events until they surrender their platform, and plot revenge fantasies with you. I love my friends, and people who align with systems of domination to oppress people are not my comrades.
