As some of y’all may know, I had COVID-19 in March. Wanted to share a couple things about my post-COVID recovery in the hope that it helps you understand how serious this can be even if you have a “mild” (non-hospitalized) case.
Since exiting quarantine in early April, I’ve been a taking part in research studies that measure antibodies and resistance to the virus over time. Yesterday the researcher I work with got in touch with an update.
They’ve been looking at my blood with the Abbott COVID-19 test. My April index number was 2.66. My June number was 1.73.

Read that as: I’m becoming less resistant to COVID-19 as the months roll by. By September, my next appointment, I expect my index number will be quite low.
Fellow COVID survivors, act like you can get sick again. Because it appears we can.

Which brings me to my second point.
Since 2018, I had been making great strides towards getting in shape. By the time I turned 40 back in February, I was easily in the best shape of my life.

By April, I would get winded going up stairs. That’s because my lungs have been damaged from COVID-19.
I don’t know if the damage is permanent. I’m walking everyday, and I’ve mixed in some jogging. It makes me so angry to know I ran the best 5k of my life earlier this year, and now I’m starting over.
At least I have that chance. So many people won’t have that privilege.

Keep wearing the mask. Keep socially distancing. Even if you’ve had it.

Thanks for your time.
One more thing. Even if I can get COVID again, I may have some level of resilience to it.

But I don’t know if my lungs can take that kind of beating again. So take no chances. Please be safe.
Thanks to everyone who’s reached out since I posted my health update. I hope the info is helpful, though it’s just my own experience. I’m not an expert in the medical field, just a guy who got sick. And a guy who is working hard to be better.
