It’s nice to have a trippy 3DS exploit that doesn’t require a flash cart or shitty DSiWare title. Just some fancy decrypting/mining to load a dsiware package that installs a special wireless profile that exploits the 3DS safe mode. Very fancy, had to hold my pinkie out for it.
Alright, to the good stuff. Custom applications on home screen. Starting with essentials because of course.
Forgot to attach this
Alright, I’ve got everything setup. Now for the part where I have to decide what to do next. Gonna start by converting most and/or all of my 3DS games to CIAs and putting them into my home menu. No more cartridges for me 👏👏
Though, given that Animal Crossing is 700 MB on its own, maybe I should get a bigger MicroSD card.
My MicroSD card is 16GB 😂😂😂😤
But man, CFW is way less scary than I thought it would be. Not much is changed at all, beyond the software that can be launched before the 3DS boots that allows for the installation of homebrew.
Hahaha, you fucks! I’m still awake creating VC injects! At 3:00 in the morning!
I’d like to mention that I’m still awake and this is not funny anymore.
It is five eighteen in the morning, I wake up in three hours, I can’t still be awake.
Alright, so here’s how last night ended up: DS games work great through TWiLight Menu++ but DSiWare gives a white screen on the normal 3DS screen. NES and GBA emulation are👌👌👌 but my SNES ROMs have sound problems. Not sure if it’s the ROMs or the emu.
Also at least one NES rom isn’t booting. Ah, the “magical” world of VC injection.
Super Mario All-Stars audio works perfectly because of fucking course it does. Fuck it, just gonna switch to a separate emulator for these games. Gonna move Earthbound over there too. It’ll be really nice to finally have an official Earthbound rom.
Okay, so it looks like my ROMs are just very fucked.
Yep, remember this cool evening project? Well, looks like the sound on those SNES games is kinda fucked! Because of course it is, thanks. https://twitter.com/andronian42/status/1267576444416294916
Nintendo, please just make it easier for me to not pirate your shit.
By the way, I don’t consider ripping ROMs from collections to be illegal. And even if it IS illegal, it’s unenforceable. Distribution can be cracked down on because it’s between people; solo ROM stuff can’t be.
Obviously the legality of it is a gray area, but shut the fuck up, I just want to play some fucking Mario on my phone
So it seems like the audio on SNES games ripped through Nintendo’s Greatest Bits is kinda fucked up. Think now’s as good a time as any to give up on my audio emulation dreams with these games. The games are what matter anyway.
Alright, so that’s the first 24 hours with a hacked New 2DSXL. And honestly? It’s cool I guess. It’ll be cooler once I find some good homebrew to put on there but my SNES collection being fucked is a bummer, and DSiWare outright not working is weird.
So converting from .bin to .nds with two different scripts gives me two files with the same sha hash, which means they’re the same files I think! So it’s either between .nds and .cia (this is the only script I can find to do that so I dunno) or the DSi and its .bin files.
Confirmed that it was between the DSi and .bin files. Looks like I can’t pull them straight off the SD card. Pulling them off the internal memory, on the other hand...
And there it is. DSiWare working on the 3DS with no weird DS transfer stuff. Includes camera support because hell yeah! Cameras are rad! A good opportunity to maybe finally finish Cave Story as well.
Holy shit, I’m literally shaking right now. Found out how to fix SNES audio from Amiibo Tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits ROMs. Way simpler than I imagined but apparently I’m the first person on the internet to find out how to do it. Since I’m not a dick, here’s how I did it:
Get your .bin file from the .szs you got from ddd. Rename extension to .sfrom. Download/Extract “wii u VC extractor” from GitHub. Drag and drop onto exe or run exe through CLI pointing at file. Done. https://github.com/wheatevo/wiiu-vc-extractor
Things like this don’t usually get fixed in my experience, so this is fucking awesome. I am so damn happy.
I fixed all the problems I’ve had.
Well, besides storage. Unfortunately, storage isn’t exactly a “run it through this program” sort of problem. It’s just storage. There isn’t enough of it, and freeing storage means losing what you truly love: video games.
But whatever, I’m actually gonna get some sleep tonight!
Haha nevermind, too hyped.
Lmao now I’m ripping games from fucking Super Smash Bros. Wii U
This thing has fucking Donkey Kong Country, I’m set for life
Took me way too long to realize this program that repaired my SNES ROMs wasn’t working because the SNES headers didn’t have a “WUP-“ before the game ID. Fuck offfffffffff.
You know, I wouldn’t be up as late if this laptop could fucking do shit without taking five hours
Literally everything is frozen right now. Goddammit.
Alright, Donkey Kong Country was just a mislabeled F-Zero. Fuck. Only new SNES games I got from SSB4U were Pilotwings and Earthbound (except I already have Earthbound on 3DS)
But at least everything is working now. We can all sleep soundly knowing that the audio to Super Mario Kart won’t kill us.
Just crashed my 3DS for the first time 👌👌
Ewwww, 3DS doesn't support 5ghz wifi bands
Boom. Streaming 3DS screens wirelessly. What's the use of it? Showing shit off, of course!
I understand the framerate is absolute shit but blame Nintendo for their shitty inability to support 5GHz networks. Come on, y’all.
Also sorry about the audio, I had to use a line-in into my PC and it kind of fucking sucked.
N64 emulation isn't perfect, but it's pretty good.
NES injection is near-perfect as usual
Pilotwings... uh...
And an SNES game that I can't inject, running on Retroarch... uh...
But Deadeus, a horror GameBoy game I found on http://itch.io , runs well injected
After trying Deadeus out on the recording, I decided to try a GBA game. Unfortunately, it broke my recording setup. I could’ve reset it quickly but decided that was enough.
Alright, checking this and it looks like emulation likes to fail whenever it’s being recorded on the 3DS. Pilotwings and Kirby Super Star work perfectly when not recording.
It’s been over a day since my last post on this thread, and that’s fair. Progress has been slow over the past 24 hours, and I haven’t really done much. Or anything. Besides game covers in TWiLight Launcher++.
Not sure what else exactly I want to do. Sort of hit the limits on emulation for now and gotta get a new MicroSD for full 3DS & DS library emulation.
