One of the most important pieces of advice I have for applicants gearing up for #VirtualInterviews is to practice! Put on a suit & zoom with a friend. Here are some common questions you can use in your practice session. #MedEd #MedStudentTwitter #SurgEd #FOAMed
Questions about motivation. Why do you want to be a physician/surgeon/surgical oncologist? What do you like about medicine/surgery/caring for people with cancer?
Questions about program and applicant fit. What are you looking for a in a residency/fellowship? Why did you apply to this program? How do you see this program helping you toward your career goals?
Questions about your values. What defines a good leader? Who is your hero? What does it mean to be a good mentor? Who has been your greatest mentor and why? Who is your role model? What are you most proud of and why?
Questions that reflect self-insight. What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness? How would your mentors/colleagues/other group describe you? Tell me about a time you failed. What did you learn from [insert activity]? Where do you most need to grow?
Questions about career direction. Where do you see yourself in 5, 10, 20 years? What will your research portfolio include? What will your clinical practice look like? How will you get there? What is your ideal job just after fellowship, or in the long run?
Question about who you are as a person. Tell me about yourself. Tell me something about yourself that isn’t on your application. What do you do for fun? Tell me about [XYZ] hobby.
If anyone has any other important/common questions to practice, please feel free to reply!
