Since the return of the Premier League and #FPL, we’ve seen a noticable increase in the number of clean sheets occuring.

In this thread I’ll be explaining why I’m going big at the back for the rest of the season and some of the assets that I recommend you get into your teams.
GOAL DROUGHT:
So far, there have been 19 clean sheets out of a possible 44. In the reverse fixtures of these matches there were only 10!

Norwich, Sheffield United, Bournemouth and West Ham have all failed to score since the restart. These, including Watford and Brighton, are...
...the teams that you’d want your defenders to be playing against, in my opinion.

However, interestingly, Crystal Palace and Burnley are also 2nd and 4th last for xG in their last two games. (They did play Liverpool and City though, so not very fair comparisons).
STRONG DEFENCES:

Wolves, Everton and Liverpool all have not conceded since the restart. They are joined by Manchester United, Brighton and Newcastle for the lowest xGA (projected goals against).

These are the teams (maybe not Brighton) that I’ll be targeting for my defence.
FIXTURES:

Let’s have a look at those teams I mentioned earlier, and combine their form with their fixtures.

Wolves: 🐺
Face 3 of the 8 ‘teams to target’ I spoke about earlier. Look extremely solid- definitely reccomend at least one.

Liverpool: 🏆
Will have to see how...
...they rotate now that they have won, but I don’t think I need to speak too much on them.

Man Utd: 😈
Brilliant fixtures and play 4 of the ‘teams to target’. Great form.

Everton: 🔹
Not as promising fixtures, however it clears up towards their last three games. Possible punt.
Brighton: 🕊
Play Man Utd, Liverpool and City in their next 4, wouldnt recommend.

Newcastle: ▪️
Play three of the teams to target. Maybe a rotation with another defender?
ASSETS:

I have put together a number of defenders that I am considering for my own team and that you should too... both from the teams I reccomended and a couple that aren’t.

1. The Liverpool Lot:
I’m putting this first to get the obvious out of the way. Get TAA. End of.
The Wolves:
The most popular picks from Wolves are SAÏSS, BOLY and DOHERTY.

Paying 0.2m more is worth it to get BOLY in my opinion, with SAÏSS only one yellow card away from a two-match suspension.

Or, if you’re looking for a more premium option, DOHERTY is a great option...
... as Wolves’ formation allows him to attck freely. The only concern would be that when Adama Traoré plays he seems to be pushed back slightly.

The Spider and Slabhead:
Manchester United are a team that most will be tripling up with, and WAN-BISSAKA & MAGUIRE are both...
... popular options. In their last game, AWB managed 11 points, with his assist + clean sheet. MAGUIRE scored an offside goal, so only 6 points for him, however with the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, the supply into the box from corners has improved. From the two, AWB is my pick.
The French Toffee:
Despite Everton’s difficult fixture run, you may want to consider DIGNE. His assist last time out saw him reach 11 points and his 3rd assist in 7 games. A good choice if you are looking for a differential.
Newcastle Enablers:
At 4.3m and 4.6m, LASCELLES and FERNÁNDEZ are both solid picks. For 0.3m more, FERNÁNDEZ is a bonus point magnet, and loves to pop in with a goal or assist every now and then.
Out Of Position:
In Tottenham Hotspurs recent match against West Ham, Serge AURIER seemed to play an extremely attacking role, and had an average position that was higher up the pitch that Son...

He’s already chipped in with an assist since the restart, and has great fixtures.
Top Four Contenders:
Now that Liverpool have won the league, the battle for 3rd and 4th is the main focus for the likes of Chelsea, Man United and Wolves. Despite a not-so-impressive defensive record, it’s hard to ignore ALONSO and AZPILICUETA, given their fixtures. Chelsea...
play West Ham, Watford, Sheffield Utd, Palace and Norwich in their next 5. I am very tempted myself.

F**k you, Pep:
You would think that a critical player like LAPORTE was nailed for City, but not even he can escape the rotation wheel. If he turns out to be a bit more nailed...
... in the upcoming games, he’s straight into my team. Manchester City’s fixtures are too good to refuse in my opinion.
That’s all for my reccomendations! If you have any others, leave them in the replies, I will be interested to see yours!

If I was to have unlimited transfers to choose a back 5, my defence would look like this:
