As PDs we are witness to the lies told by cops to justify their racist policing and prosecutions. #COPSLIE. Police plant evidence, falsify documents, lie about why they arrest or use force and lie while testifying under oath. Please read these stories, share & tell yours: 1/
An undercover told a person he was a veteran whose war injuries were hurting. He was given a pain pill, said he recognized it to be a controlled substance based on his “training,” & arrested the person he lied to. After months in court, labs showed it was an OTC pain med. 2/
Cops denied using any force in arresting a person who had TASER burns across their body. 2/
Cops told a mother that it was illegal for her to stop them from searching her home without a warrant, and used her immigration status as a threat if she attempted to refuse them entry. 3/
A cop once told me during cross examination that he can look over his left and right shoulder simultaneously. An incredible tactical asset to the NYPD. 4/
Two officers changed their story entirely between hearing and trial because our investigators discovered video footage of the arrest which contradicted the officers’ hearing testimony on every point. Got a not-guilty verdict, but they’re still out there making arrests. 5/
Cops turn off their body cameras during bad searches and turn them back on after the person is already handcuffed. Footage starts in the patrol car or at the station, in direct violation of Patrol Guide ch 212-123, so they can lie about the search. 6/
Lying on a criminal complaint is a class A misdemeanor, but it happens all the time — especially when someone shows up in arraignments with injuries from the police. They’ll be accused of “violently resisting arrest” to justify a police beating. Video often shows otherwise. 7/
Lies told by cops — in court, on paper, to ADAs, to civilians — are ubiquitous. I have many specific stories I can’t share because the story & trauma belong to someone who could be further harmed by retribution from police for going public. It’s happened to people I know. 8/
#CopsLie. The system is built to reward cops who lie to protect their rep, arrests, pride, colleagues, power, & jobs. When lies are discovered, a dismissal or acquittal — sometimes after YEARS in court — does not amount to justice. #DefundThePolice. Start by firing lying cops.
