I’m going to start a new summer reading thread, as I just finished my engineering degree last week and want to relax with some fiction!
The Binding! I’m so excited that this was so incredibly popular, and ugh it does deserve it. The writing and characters in particular were rich and I really fell for them (I cried oops). Felt the ending was a little rushed so loses a couple points there but please read this! 8/10
I just want to add (mild spoilers), since I do highly recommend people read this, that this book can get very dark quite often, and so for people sensitive to themes of sexual assault and suicide note that they are present and lingered over here.
2: I was ill and wanted a cosy to read, ok? But I finished this in a day! Agatha is a v human and quite unlikeable character, & whilst the mystery itself wasn’t challenging, her character kept me really hooked. For that 6/10, but maybe higher if Agatha specifically speaks to you.
3: Reading Mitchell books often feels to me like running 5 paces behind him trying to keep up, whilst simultaneously in awe at the view. N9D has a whiplash-inducing plot, great protagonist, and that weird, adventurous, lyrical use of English I loved in his other books 8.?/10
Eh. Readable romance, but feels most jokes come at the expense of a protag who the (not-autistic) author claims wasn’t intended as autistic, yet follows EVERY bleh Sheldon-Cooper-esque stereotype. If interested, check out reviews from autistic readers, as they do vary, but 4.5/10
