When you feel the urge to sin- A few tips 🧵
Remember that Allah is watching. Would we be doing the same thing if a CCTV camera was placed above, constantly watching us?
Let us remind ourselves that Allah can record every single thing better than a piece of technology can ever record
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is reported to have said, "When you are reminded of Allah, then stop"
Remember that the angels are recording everything we do.
يوم تجد كل نفس ما عملت من خير محضرا وما عملت من سوء
The day when every soul will find present whatever good they have done and whatever bad they have done
Quran 3:30
What if death came to you in this state?
What would the people around you think of you?
Most importantly, with what face will you stand before Allah on the day of Judgement?
Think of the reward you will get for resisting against your desire to sin.
وأمّا من خاف مقام ربه ونهى النفس عن الهوى فإن الجنة هي المأوى
And as for the one who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from (unlawful) desires, then verily, Paradise will be his abode
Read Ta'awudh أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
Make wudhu, as it purifies sins
Occupy yourself with something else, preferably an act of worship. An unoccupied mind is a target for shaytan
Try to avoid seclusion wherever possible.
If you do fall into a sin, then immediately repent to Allah. Make a firm intention never to repeat it again. Follow it up with a good deed (e.g. charity).
إن الحسنات يذهبن السيئات
Verily, good deeds take away bad deeds
Quran 11:114
Read 2 Rak'ah nafl, seeking forgiveness from Allah. Impose a penalty (e.g. a certain amount in charity) on yourself every time you do the sin, but it should be something that you are able to do, and you should actually do it.
In this way, the nafs will eventually avoid the sin
May Allah help us build taqwa, abstain from sins, and grant us His pleasure.
