when i was 19 and halfway through my *degree in photography* i walked into a camera shop and the clerk told me i must like canon because i’m a woman and the menus are “easier to understand.”

my entire time in art school, despite consistently bringing in speciality projects and large format film for processing, my lab spoke down to me like i was some sort of rookie developing tourist photos at a drug store.

when i bought myself a second camera body a few years ago, the clerk deadass asked if i knew i had picked out a nice camera and then asked if i was going to use it to take photos of “my kids.”

nearly every wedding i shoot, a male wedding guest (or groom) tries to talk shop with me in a condescending manner and makes suggestions.

not to be like oh i’m so smart but i did literally get a bachelors degree in photography so i do often know more about photo than the hobbyist dudes mansplaining to me while i’m in the middle of a grueling 8 hour wedding shift.
