I've been visiting San Francisco for 25 years. I've never seen it so bad.

Tents across 40 city blocks. Gangs operating open-air drug markets. People smoking meth in plain sight.

Things are falling apart.
I grew up in Sacramento and first came to the city with my father when he was going through chemotherapy for a rare cancer.

We would eat at US Restaurant in North Beach and he would get the pink Italian sports newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport.

It was beautiful.
Now everything has gone mad.

I saw a rope-line of Asian-American preschoolers weaving through a gauntlet of drug-dealing, tents, and meth smoke.

A man threatened to punch me out.

A social worker told me they are trying to get pregnant women off the streets and into rehab.
