Is anyone keeping a running list of all the ways the @aurorapd tried to keep the #ElijahMcClain killing from gaining traction? I’ll start: 1) Delaying the release of the body cam footage for 4 months.
2) Releasing the footage Friday at 5pm.
3) Releasing 3 hours worth of footage, making it more difficult to review, post, and share.
4) Releasing a press release making it sound like Elijah threatened the 911 caller by “waving his arms” at the caller, even though that isn’t what the 911 call said.
5) announcing there would be no criminal charges at Friday night, the Friday before Thanksgiving.
6) Not giving the family or the family’s lawyer advanced notice of the press conference where they announced there would be no criminal charges - making it more difficult to spread the word. Especially before the Thanksgiving holiday.
7) Releasing selective and biased language from the autopsy report, which furthered the narrative that Elijah McClain was “violently struggling” with the officers and the cause of his own death.
8) @aurorapd Turning off the comment section from both Twitter and Instagram to prevent widespread discussion of #ElijahMcClain
@aurorapd: why all these tactics if you have nothing to hide? Sounds like #ElijahMcClainWasMurdered.
