*IMPORTANT THREAD* I have to confess as a #voiceactor that in the past I haven’t always done my part in paving the way for POC to get more VO opportunities. Whenever I saw a casting call, as long as there were female roles, I’d audition for them - including black characters 1/?
The fact that those roles were POC and I’m not wasn’t even a consideration. I didn’t realize I was doing more harm than good by expressing interest in those roles, and was ultimately part of the problem. As a result, I’ve secured black roles in the past over black talent that 2/?
I’m sure could’ve given an equally if not more amazing performance than me. I have had to change my way of thinking in the last few weeks, and it has really made me re-evaluate my past decisions and pushed me to want to be more mindful going forward 3/?
That being said, there will be some black roles I’ve already recorded for in the past year coming out of the woodwork. While for some of these roles there might be no turning back, I have expressed to each of those project owners my openness in being recast and to support 4/?
that transition in any way that I can. I’ve also decided to donate my profit from these roles to organizations that promote diversity through my company (which will double match the donation). It is the least I can do for my past actions, in addition to being more cognizant 5/?
of my choices moving forward. I want to thank all the POC actors out there who have been posting about their struggles non-stop, because it has really educated me about my past mistakes and things I can be doing to allow your talent and success to shine in this industry ❤️ 6/6
