In shs, for a Buwan ng Wika thing, my friends and I joined this story book writing competition. We looked for inspiration in Bicol mythology, and long story short, came across the myth of Magindang and Bulan.
Magindang was the god of the Sea, and Bulan was the god of the moon (bulan in Bikol means moon). Well, more like he is the moon.
Magindang was in love with Bulan and he yearned for him, but Bulan was shy to the object of his affections and turned him away.
Furthermore, the sister of Bulan, Haliya the goddess of moonlight, always got in the way of Magindang's plans for she swore to protect Bulan no matter what.
And that, kids, is the reason why it seems like the tide rises during the full moon when seen from the horizon. An asymptotic love story where Magindang will infinitely be close to Bulan, but would never meet.
I advise you to look this myth up more closely because I may have some things mixed up and got wrong. I just wanted to share this myth because dude the Bicol literature is so rich and diverse we should be hyping this up more.
