Fictional pedophilia/incest in the art/fanfic community, for years this has been a very..debated subject, so I did some research that everyone should read through. No, this is not justifying pedophilia/incest or any abusive ships. this is just for informative purposes. (A Thread)

I do NOT support any of these things, but I’m a very open minded person due to things I’ve witnessed and people I know in similar situations. I always try to understand WHY people like/enjoy things that others may find disturbing and wrong. That does NOT mean I support it.

First, let’s get one thing clear. Ch*ld p*rnography is illegal in majority of countries around the world, a child is someone who is under 18. Sexualising them is illegal IRL.. and FICTIONAL child pornography is wrong.. but is not illegal in all countries.

You are responsible for your actions, fiction CAN influence behaviour, but doesn’t directly CAUSE it. It is up to you as to whether you allow fiction to affect your reality, but liking something in fiction does not automatically mean you support it in real life. Not for everyone.

Ch*ld p*rnography involves sexual interactions, therefore, art of a character who is.. let’s say a NON-sexual ship artwork/fanfic of a 16yo, with a character who is 21yo is NOT pedophilia. depending on which country you are from, a relationship like this can be legal.

In Australia, the age of consent is 16-17 in most states, meaning they are allowed to engage in sexual intercourse with anyone over 16/17 if both parties are consenting to it. So if you draw art of two characters with a large age gap, it is not pedophilia, UNLESS-

(In UK, the legal age of consent is ALSO 16.)

you are drawing art where one of the characters is NOT consenting to the relationship, then that is pedophilia and it is wrong to draw. Whether it’s legal or not I don’t support doing it but if it is legal in your country I reccomend keeping it to yourself or getting help.

As for incest.. fictional incest is legal in most countries, that does not make it ok irl, of course. But It’s in Game of Thrones. It’s legal to fictionalise. It may not be right, but it’s not illegal to fictionalise, maybe it is in some countries but I’m not sure which ones.

In conclusion.. if you draw NON-sexual art of a ship in which both characters are consenting despite there being a large age gap AND they are of AGE OF CONSENT, it is legal. It is not pedophilia unless it’s non-consensual and/or SEXUALISING characters under 18.

Drawing a underage character OLDER than their original age and sexualising them is ok if you’re drawing them over 18. But otherwise you shouldn’t sexualise children.. it’s disgusting.

It really comes down to where you’re from. Depending on where you’re from, some of these things may be VERY wrong, but may not be illegal to draw/write about fictionally.If you don’t feel comfortable about a certain ship or art work, block the person and don’t look at their art.

I didn’t make this post to justify any of these things, I made it to make people aware of WHY some people FEEL it is ok to do this. That’s pretty much all.
If you support any of this IRL I reccomend getting some help, if it’s purely fictional just keep it to yourself :/

For me, large age gaps aren’t a huge deal as long as your of age of consent or at least 18yo. This is mainly because my parents have a 6 year age gap and they were very in love, my moms ex was 13 years older and I’ve always been taught that once you’re an adult,age doesn’t matter

AS LONG as you’re over age of consent and are both consenting and comfortable with the relationship. Obviously if the relationship is abusive, manipulative, nonconsensual and/or forced, it’s very wrong and I do not support this AT ALL.

Fictionally.. under certain circumstances, people can ship/draw/write whatever they want. As long as they’re following the law and NOT supporting or encouraging illegal things such as pedophilia IRL, than I think you should just- block out people who do that if you don’t like it.
