Going to split out my TNG rewatch now that I'm on Season 3. The old thread, for reference is here. https://twitter.com/Miranda_Dragon/status/1253433508648763393
S3E1: "Evolution"

Beverly is back! I liked Pulaski a lot more than most people I think, but Crusher's dynamic with Picard was more fun.

A star is gonna explode and they got a scientist who wants to probe it!

But, the ship systems are on the fritz! Because Wesley fucked up!
S3E2: "The Ensigns of Command"

Bureaucratic aliens want to colonize a planet that belongs to them, but there are humans there!

Only Data can work to try and convince them to leave, or face destruction.

Boy this episode has a lot of parallels to some modern problems...
S3E3: "The Survivors"

An entire planet obliterated...except one tiny ass plot of land with a house that's in perfect shape...a mystery...

Oh also "Let's fuck with Troi again I guess"

This is a great episode though.
S3E4: "Who Watches The Watchers"

Anthropologists studying a pre-spacefaring race have a thing go wrong, and now Picard is a god.

Oops...

We gonna violate some prime directives up in here.
S3E5: "The Bonding"

The ship's archaeologist dies on an away team led by Worf leaving her son an orphan

But, something strange is trying to co-opt him

The framing on the scene where Troi works through Worf's anger is really good.

There's a lot of good bits in here actually
S3E6: "Booby Trap"

Geordi can't get his game on.

But, a critical situation has him falling in love with a computer girlfriend.

This surely won't get awkward later on!
S3E7: "The Enemy"

Geordi is stranded on a stormy planet. With a Romulan!

Can they put aside their differences?

Meanwhile the other Romulans are pissed!
S3E8: "The Price"

A stable wormhole is discovered a potentially very valuable asset and everyone wants it!

Including the Ferangi. And they're up to shenanigans.

And so is the creepy negotiator going after Troi.

Fuck em up Riker.

"That's the first bad play I've seen you make"
S3E9: "The Vengeance Factor"

In order to end raids in a section of the galaxy, Picard tries to broker peace between two stubborn factions.

Riker falls for a servant of one of the faction leaders.

But, a mystery is afoot...
S3:10: "The Defector"

Picard coaching Data through Shakespearean acting is pure.

Suddenly a Romulan craft seeking asylum! And the other Romulans are pissed! (A recurring theme...)

He wants to prevent a war. Can he be trusted?

This is a great episode.
S3E11: "The Hunted"

The enterprise captures a fugitive super solider...

...was he mistreated? What's going on here?

"A matter of internal security...the age old cry of the oppressor"
S3E12: "The High Ground"

The Enterprise visits a planet currently undergoing a separatist rebellion.

Crusher gets kidnapped!

This episode is messy. It presents some tough questions, but doesn't really take a stand.

The ending is very unsatisfying.
S3E13: "Deja Q"

Q is back! But, now he's human and has lost all his power!

I love this episode.

A moon is going to crash into a planet...can the Enterprise help?
S3E14: "A Matter of Perspective"

A space station disaster...and now Riker is accused of murder!

Time for Sci-Fi Rashomon.
S3E15: "Yesterday's Enterprise"

TIME HOLE

Alternate timeline Enterprise where the Klingon war never ended and Tasha's back. This timeline sucks!

GOTTA UNDO THE TIME HOLE

"It's an Earth drink. Prune Juice."

"Warrior's drink!"
S3E16: "The Offspring"

Data constructs a child!

Starfleet is being weird about it...and wants to take her away!

Good on Data for letting his child be the arbiter of their identity. forward thinking

Also, definitely crying now even though I've seen this episode like five times
This episode just fucking slays me ;__;
S3E17: "Sins of the Father"

Klingon foreign exchange officer.

He sucks!

But he's Worf's brother! Their father has been accused as a traitor!

Worf has to fuck some shit up. Picard is coming to.

Seems it's a big scam.
S3E18: "Allegiance"

Hate to be captain of a starship and a weird polygonal object invades your quarters and you get abducted and replaced with a shitty doppleganger while you're forced to be part of a weird alien experiment with three strangers.
S3E19: "Captain's Holiday"

Picard and I seem to share the same problem of not going on vacation as often as should be.

But, he's gotta go to Risa...which is pretty basic paradise I guess.

And then an adventure.

I love how Riker tricks Picard into displaying the SEX BEACON.
S3E20: "Tin Man"

A super empathetic Betazoid joins the Enterprise to investigate a living star ship. But...the Romulans show up. They're angry.

This is an episode I always liked.
S3E21: "Hollow Pursuits"

Enter Lt. Barclay. Who has a holodeck problem...

I can see this exactly being the kind of problem people would have if the holodeck was real. Though this is very much a product of the time and very safe for TV compared to what people would really do
Wesley just casually eating an entire fucking pie in every holodeck scene he's in tickles me.
S3E22: "The Most Toys"

Data gets kidnapped! But everyone thinks he's just fucking dead! Will he get rescued?

I don't like how ambiguous the ending of this one is, but I do love this episode.

"I cannot permit this to continue."
S3E23: "Sarek"

Spock's dad comes on board to finish up an important diplomatic mission.

But, he's having some issues keeping his emotions in check...which has repercussions for the whole ship.

Can Picard take extreme action to save everything?
Another favorite of course. Stewart's performance is amazing in this. I always get emotional ;__;

Peter S. Beagle worked on this one!

(Also, hey the dress uniforms are always nice to see when they make an appearance. I love that design)
S3E24: "Menage a Troi"

Ferangi has the hots for Lwaxana. A true man of taste. Still a scumbag! He's gonna kidnap Troi, Lwaxana, and Riker!

Picard going full Shakespeare is always a treat.
S3E25: "Transfigurations"

A mysterious man is discovered at a crash site, with serious injuries, but a superfast healing and no memory of who he is. Oh also he heals people?

Meanwhile, Geordie is getting his game on again.
S3E26:" The Best of Both Worlds (Part 1)

The Borg Are Back. Starfleet ain't ready for this shit.

Riker has been offered another captain's chair...but still reluctant to leave the Enterprise...and the person who wants his chair is making her intentions clear.
First time the season ends on a cliffhanger...
S4E1: "The Best of Both Worlds (Part 2)"

Picard is a Borg now. And the Borg know all he knows.

Riker becomes Captain of the Enterprise.

Starfleet makes their stand at Wolf 359. It goes very bad.

The Enterprise is the last hope...will they let Picard die to defeat the Borg?
S4E2: "Family"

Enterprise is in space dock for extensive repairs.

Picard needs some time off, for once. He went through a lot. He heads home to France...and has to work out some family stuff with his brother.

Worf's human family has a visit and I love them.
S4E3: "Brothers"

Data gets secretly activated and forced to commandeer the Enterprise to return to his creator, in the middle of a medical emergency. His creator who was thought to be dead...

And now Lore is here. Time for a family reunion...
Spiner again is amazing in this episode. Any time an actor has to play multiple characters in a scene (in this case, 3) and does it well, is impressive.
S4E4: "Suddenly Human"

An alien vessel in distress has an unexpected young human on board who was apparently raised by them. The Enterprise wants to return him to his human family. He doesn't want any part of that shit.

And now Picard has to deal with it...he hates kids.
Also this music rules?
S4E5: "Remember Me"

Everyone around Beverly begins to vanish from the Enterprise, yet no one remembers them ever existing and there is no record of it...a mystery...

This is another great episode.
S4E6: "Legacy"

The enterprise has to make a rescue on Tasha's shitty planet.

And they find Tasha's sister! Can they trust her assistance with the rescue? Or do they have ulterior motives (PROBABLY)
S4E7: "Reunion"

K'Ehleyr is back! AND WORF HAS A SON NOW

Picard gets wrapped up in mediating a disagreement in the Klingon empire that could lead to civil war.

Worf kicks ass. Picard is more pissed than he's ever been.
S4E8: "Future Imperfect"

An away team mission goes awry...and suddenly Riker wakes up in the future as Captain???!

I like the twists in this episode.
S4E9: "Final Mission"

Wesley gets into Starfleet academy! He and Picard take a mining shuttle out to an outpost to handle a dispute while the Enterprise handles some other shit.

BUT THEY CRASH! On a desolate planet. And no one knows where they are...now they must survive.
S4E10: "The Loss"

Troi is incredibly good at her job. And then something bad happens to her...again...

The enterprise is stuck in something they can't see and getting dragged through space...while Troi loses all of her empathic ability and struggles to cope.
I'm sure someone has written on this episodes attempts to broach people coping with the loss of an important part of themselves. I'll have to look into it.

As such I did always like this episode. The concept of a 2D form of life is interesting.
S4E11: "Data's Day"

Data logs his entire day to send back to that shitty cyberneticist who wanted to dissect him in season 2. Data is too nice.

And our first introduction to Keiko!

Also Spot!

Data is probably my favorite character so...I love all of this episode.
Data trying to get involved with getting a wedding on track, while some shit is gonna go off around the Neutral Zone is an amusing dichotomy.

There are so many little things in this episode happening.

Data picking out wedding gifts, learning to dance.
The enterprise barber shop is wild too.
S4E12: "The Wounded"

Enter the Cardassians.

The Cardassians attack the Enterprise, because a Federation ship has gone rogue and attacked them. They're supposed to be under a peace treaty.

Time for the Enterprise to track them down, the Federation can't afford a war right now.
The rogue captain is the warden from Shawshank Redemption.

Also Keiko and O'brien domestic life.
S4E13: "Devil's Due"

Data doing A Christmas Carol in the intro!

A planet has apparently souls their souls to THE DEVIL

And now the enterprise must beat the devil.
S4E14: "Clues"

Everyone passes out after an encounters with a wormhole en-route to investigate a an M class planet?

And now there are some mysteries afoot...that M class planet is not M class? Was the crew only out for a short time?

Is Data keeping secrets from the crew?
S4E15: "First Contact"

Riker gets in trouble when an accident exposes him while undercover on a mission to a planet about to become warp capable.

Picard and Troi continue with the first contact mission, but Riker's accident could compromise everything.
"I've always wanted to make love with an alien."

This is the most realistic episode of Star Trek ever.
S4E16: "Galaxy's Child"

The real person behind Geordi's holodeck girlfriend is coming to the Enterprise and Geordi learns a valuable lesson on the nature of parasocial relationships.

Meanwhile the Enterprise accidentally becomes a space mom to a giant space creature.
S4E17: "Night Terrors"

After locating a derelict vessel (where the everyone killed each other), the crew starts hallucinating and becoming paranoid and angry. They no longer get REM sleep

But Troi starts having weird nightmares.

And they're stuck now too...

Insomnia sucks.
The voice for "Eyes in the Dark...One Moon Circles" is the same voice in my head for the Iconocalsts from Twilight Mirage.

"We are the River, And it is the Sea. Run to it or run dry, but all will run."
S4E18: "Identity Crisis"

Five years ago an away team investigated a mass disappearance that was never solved.

And now other members of that team have gone AWOL. Two are left...one is Geordi!

What is going on?! Is Geordi in danger?
S4E19: "The Nth Degree"

Barclay is not so great at drama...but he's trying his best.

But then he gets zapped by a mysterious probe and he's a SUPER GENIUS.

AND NOW HE IS COMPUTER MAN
S4E20: "Qpid"

Picard is going to speak at an archaeology conference...and his brief lover who he went on an adventure with at Risa finds him. And it's awkward...

But, now Q is here! And they gotta do Robin Hood now.
S4E21: "The Drumhead"

A saboteur has damaged the warp drive. Star Fleet has sent an Admiral to get the bottom of it...A conspiracy on the Enterprise?

Or is it a coincidence?
S4E22: "Half a Life"
Lwaxana!!!
The Enterprise assists a reclusive planet with fixing their SUN problem. It doesn't work and now the lead scientist is at his culturally set end of life. He wants to keep working and he and Lwaxna are in love. Time for a diplomatic incident?
This episode fucks me up!
S4E23: "The Host"

Beverly has a boyfriend! A Trill ambassador attempting to resolve a dispute that could verge on war.

An accident reveals the true nature of the Trill as symbiotic beings.

Riker volunteers to becomes the new host temporarily...

Things get weird...
I don't like how this one ends, but of course this is how it ends. My sensibilities are very not inline with the norms of when this was made.
S4E24: "The Mind's Eye"

The Romulans kidnap Geordi and turn him into the Manchurian Candidate.

They wish to induce unrest in the Klingon empire...and use him without his knowledge!

Geordi investigating his own espionage is an interesting bit.
S4E25: "In Theory"

The Enterprise investigates a dark matter nebula.

Also Data starts dating another crew member.

Strange things begin to occur around the ship...while Data tries to figure out love without emotions.

The ending to this one is intensely sad.
S4E26: "Redemption (Part1)"
Gowron (the most intense Klingon of all time) will become leader of the high council. The Enterprise will participate in the ceremony. And now Worf is gonna get his HONOR BACK
But, it appears CIVIL WAR IS IMMINENT. Are the Romulans involved?(Of course)
Not quite as huge an end of season as 3, but still big implications. I imagine watching this at the time was still a big deal.
S5E1: "Redemption (Part 2)"
Worf fights with the Klingons, Picard tries to uncover the Romulan involvement with the civil war.
Picard wants to set up a blockade but there aren't many ships available.
The Duras sisters try to get Worf involved in their plot.
Data gets a command!
Oh, also Tasha Yarr had a Romulan daughter! Because TIME SHENANIGANS

My favorite bit of this episode was Data's strife with his shitty first officer.
S5E2: "Darmok"

Picard and the captain of an alien ship learn about friendship, struggle, and what it means to work together through the power of memes.

This is one of the classic episodes for sure.
S5E3: "Ensign Ro"

Picard is tasked with tracking down and bringing in a Bajoran terrorist.

Pursuant to that, a new Bajoran officer is assigned to the Enterprise to assist...who has a checkered past. Picard isn't happy...and neither is she.

But, what is the truth of the matter?
Since GDQ is over, back to Star Trek!
S5E4: "Silicon Avatar"
The Crystalline Entity is back, Destroying a planet newly being colonized.
Now the Enterprise is in pursuit to study it further, joined by a scientist with a vendetta.
She's weird about Data. Then she's WEIRD about data
S5E5: "Disaster"

The Enterprise crashes into a giant space mcguffin. And now everything's completely fucked.

Nothing works, Troi has to command the bridge, Picard has to watch some kids, Geordi and Beverly put out a fire, Data becomes a head, and Worf has to deliver a baby.
S5E6: "The Game"

Wesley is back for a visit and has to teach the crew about the dangers of video game addiction. Or something.
S5E7: "Unification (Part 1)"

Spock! He's hanging out with the Romulans. What's he UP to? He didn't tell anyone!

Picard and Data borrow a Klingon ship and disguise themselves as Romulans to try and find out what's going on.
S5E8: "Unification (Part 2)"

Spock is on a mission to unify the Romulans and the Vulcans.

Is he walking into a trap? (Probably!)

HI LARGE MULTI ARM MUSICIAN WOMAN I LOVE YOU
S5E9: "A Matter of Time"

Max Headroom appears while the Enterprise is trying to fix the climate of a planet hit by an asteroid. He claims he's a historian from the future, and everyone just kind of believes him? Anyhow, the planet thing goes all kinds of sideways.
The more I think about this episode the less I like it. But, I do like the tidbit that data listens to like 10 pieces of music at once, on the regular.
S5E10: New Ground

Worf's mom drops his son off on the Enterprise, for Worf to take care of

Worf isn't into the idea of raising a son and he struggles with it a bit, but he's going to give it his best shot

Also they're testing out a new way of doing warp travel. It goes weird
S5E11: Hero Worship

A young boy is the sole survivor of a research ship. He befriends Data and tries to cope with the loss of his family by pretending to be an android.

Meanwhile the Enterprise has to figure out what went wrong and what happened to the ship.
S5E12: Violations

REALLY REALLY SHITTY THINGS HAPPEN TO TROI (again)
S5E13: The Masterpiece Society

A disaster is about to befall a colony of eugenicists who tried to create a perfect society.

They are very reluctant to leave.

Troi falls for their leader.

It gets weird.

Solid episode though.
S5E14: Conundrum
Troi is better than Data at chess.

Everyone gets hit by a beam from an alien ship and forgets who they are. Also there's an unexplained extra crew member.

Shenanigans ensue.

I feel like there could be a version of this episode that is better.
S5E15: Power Play

After searching for a crashed ship, Troi, Obiren, and Data are possessed by ghosts claiming to be from the lost crew. They take over 10 Forward. Are they telling the truth?
S5E16: Ethics

An accident severely injures Worf and leaves him paralyzed.

Crusher gets some help to try and repair the damage, but is it possible?

Worf struggles with his condition. A lot of ethical questions arise around people's rights to choose and their mortality.
S5E17: The Outcast

While investigating a space anomaly and starting a rescue mission, Riker falls in love with a non-gendered alien.

This episode is pretty clumsy, by modern standards, but it seems like its heart was in the right place, especially given the time it aired.
S5E18: Cause and Effect

The Enterprise Fucking DIES

But, then it's fine.

The Enterprise Fucking DIES

But, then it's fine.

The Enterprise Fucking DIES

But, then it's fine.

The Enterprise Fucking DIES

But, then it's fine.

TIME HOLE
S5E19: The First Duty

Wesley fucks up.
S5E20: Cost of Living

Lwaxana! Still the best! She's getting married to someone she's never met! On the Enterprise.

Worf and Alexander are having parent/child conflict. Troi tries to smooth things over. Lwaxana wants to help! The only way she knows how. By being awesome.
Oh also the Enterprise is falling apart because they blew up an asteroid full of metal parasites that are eating the ship and everyone almost dies.

More importantly, Lwaxana wins because she remembers she rules.
S5E21: The Perfect Mate

Picard falls for a woman who's genetically built to be the perfect match. But, she's destined for jerk. Also she falls in love with Picard, but how does that even work if she's just picking up on whoever is near her I don't know this is a mess.
One good thing about this episode is reaffirming that there are dolphins on the Enterprise
S5E22: Imaginary Friend
Holy shit it's been a minute. Back to TNG.

An alien lifeform from a nebula manifests as a lonely girl's imaginary friend and causes TROUBLE
S5E23: I, Borg
The Enterprise rescues an injured Borg. Now Picard has to decide if they should use him to commit a genocide. But, does this Borg have potential to change from the only world it has known.

I really dig the ethical dilemma here.
Also I just noticed this time that Hugh had a RAM chip in his arm
