So today's the day Debrecen, who've won 7 titles in the last 15 years and played in the Champions League group stage in 2009, could get relegated from NB I

And it looks like a typical relegation day

The demise of Debrecen has been a slow and painful one.

Back in the 00's they were dubbed by some as the Man United of Hungary and that team that qualified for the CL was among the best NB I has produced since the fall of Communism

But ever since their lavish but ridiculously over the top stadium was built in 2014, they've been a mess

The Nagyerdei Stadion holds over 20,000 people. Debrecen's average attendance in NB I since it was built has never averaged near 4,000.

The only time the stadium ever fills is for the annual Flower Carnival.

Since Debrecen's foray into the Champions League, the club have suffered from an startling level of incompetence at board room level.

In that period of time, they've changed manager 7 times. And employed a previous manager on 3 occasions

And on the pitch they have completely lost their way and identity.

Recruitment is abject, they provide next to no players for the national team, their U19s are bottom of their league, and their first team performances this season have been nothing short of terrible

When a team from somewhere in central/eastern Europe makes the group stage of the Champions League it should set that club up to prosper forever.

In the case of Debrecen, it's done the complete opposite.

From Anfield to the Ajkai Városi Sportcentrum in 11 years.
