Dear Twitter Diary:
What are likely implications of holding the July Bar Exam?
UBE Scoring System (as far as I know):
Scores are weighed: MBE (50%), MEE (30%), and MPT (20%)
MBE: There is a raw score and a scaled score
MEE: Raw scores are averaged
1/16

Scores are weighed: MBE (50%), MEE (30%), and MPT (20%)
MBE: There is a raw score and a scaled score
MEE: Raw scores are averaged
1/16
MPT: One raw score
MPT and MEE scores are scaled to the MBE score (using standard deviation).
Each jurisdiction has its own passing score.
What happens if:
-scores are well below average?
Examinees sitting in July do not have the option to sit in Sept (most states)

-examinees perform avg or well?
Will they be viewed as "making a big deal out of nothing"? (It& #39;s not nothing)
Say we perform well, what about the mental health cost (I know, such a welcomed topic in this profession) to these new attorneys? Whether you pass or fail, arguably

there& #39;s significantly more strain than normal surrounding this exam. For most with jobs on the line (current job market status itself = thread for another time), are they expected to go about business as usual and start like nothing is different? What is the expectation here?

Those championing a July bar, if we pass under the circumstances, will we be given higher praise because we "muscled through"? If we fail, will we be considered weak because we couldn& #39;t "rise to the occasion"? Neither of those is an appropriate take.

Some states are enforcing masks & 6ft distancing while in the testing facility.
Some are asking examinees to submit to temperature taking. Too high of a temp? See you in Feb!
Some are requiring signing waivers releasing those administering the exam of absolute liability.

Don& #39;t want to sign? See you in Feb!
Despite following guidelines, people will get sick. Across the country, there will be thousands of examinees congregating because they are forced to choose between their health and the culmination of ~3 yrs worth of painstaking work

& #39;Why not wait until Feb if you& #39;re so concerned?& #39; Some can& #39;t wait that long bc their employment requires bar passage. Bills don& #39;t wait. Student loan payments kick in later this year.

& #39;If there wasn& #39;t a pandemic and you failed, you& #39;d have to wait until Feb anyway.& #39; This misses the point. There isn& #39;t a fair shot at passing the bar here. (Fairness of the bar exam itself = another thread, another time)
Also, Feb isn& #39;t guaranteed to better.

Say you pass but get sick. Was it worth it? Don& #39;t pass and get sick? If your family catches it from you?
I& #39;m all for putting in the work and earning a passing grade but holding examinees to the "norm" while the surrounding circumstances are anything but, is deranged.

I don& #39;t know what the solution is.
Delay until Sept? If Sept isn& #39;t safe, confer diploma privilege?
What is the reasoning for the stringent (in)actions behind the boards of bar examiners? We aren& #39;t asking to set a new precedent for the exam, but that an exception be made.

Is there so little faith in law schools that decent attorneys can& #39;t be expected to come from them without passing the bar? (Hint: not all who pass the bar are decent attorneys)

is far more difficult than the powers that be behind the exam taking examinees& #39; concerns into account and adjusting accordingly.
Nothing about this situation is comfortable. There is no perfect solution, but there have to be better ones than what examinees are facing.

These thoughts may seem excessive but they& #39;re completely valid. This is examinees& #39; reality right now.
I& #39;m sure there are plenty of questions and concerns outside of this thread that are applicable as well.
