I wrote this in response to something, but it’s actually the start of what I’ve been wanting to put in words for a while. (0) https://twitter.com/jezatrix/status/1275613055406297091">https://twitter.com/jezatrix/...
Dear BLM Allies,
I’m gonna say something none of us will like much. We have to stop jumping to block our racist aunt or that guy from college. (I know I laughed at the tweets too.) I’m not suggesting anyone risk their mental health or condoning their bullshit. (1)
I’m saying, don’t actively block people out. Don’t search for it. Black people have been putting up with our crap FOR YEARS and still so many have gracefully and graciously helped us to learn to be better. Even now, while their families are dying, they are sharing whole lists (2)
with ways to support and understand their cultures better. And as important as it is to march and to sign petitions and to retweet, it’s also important that we stand up and put some of the burden on our own shoulders. We need to practice sharing what we’ve learned. (3)
Once more, I’m not saying we need to keep anyone hurtful or hateful close to us; I’m suggesting that some of them need to be taught the same way we’ve been taught. This is one way we help in this fight for justice and REAL systemic change. (4)
This is onwe show #BlackLivesMatter https://abs.twimg.com/hashflags... draggable="false" alt=""> always.
Thank you,
Another Grateful Ally
