Mechanically speaking this game was really ambitious, in fact some elements from the very first teaser never made it into the final and the ones that are there work and flow very very nicely.

That said, there were some things that were rough around the edges.
For one, this game supports controllers but not terribly well.
You have to assign the controls yourself and it& #39;s not clear how many of your controller& #39;s buttons are mapped to multiple actions so you& #39;ll spend some time messing with that before actually playing.
It& #39;s clear the game was built with a keyboard in mind because movement is 8 directional and an analog stick doesn& #39;t remedy this. But you get used to it pretty quick and it doesn& #39;t really detract from the experience.

Collision on the other hand....
So collision in this game feels very Unity if it makes sense.
There& #39;s a lot of rounded edges all over the game with crazy landscapes that sometimes just don& #39;t play nice with unity& #39;s collision detection and can get a little jank.

Thankfully I only managed to get stuck once!
Combat can be slow and in some cases the outcome might be decided from the very first turn(Hello Poolman/Poolmagn) , if you& #39;re not careful or at some points lucky you& #39;ll wind up pretty fucked before you realize it.
And it can get a little frustrating on Normal difficulty.
I think those were the biggest complaints I had about the game and they are honestly kinda minor in microcosm.
Even the difficulty aspect can be easily mitigated by just playing it on Easy mode instead!
So moving onto the good stuff, of which there is a LOT!
I know I just spent the past 2 tweets talking about the difficulty but it also motivates you to try more passive strategies and setups that will save your life in the long run, there& #39;s proper no way to deal tons of damage.
Instead there& #39;s ways to inflict status ailments of all kinds, like transferring your own onto an enemy, negating buffs etc etc, and there& #39;s at least 3 of them that deal damage over time which can and WILL work in tandem if you manage to inflict all 3!
Buffs are single use(except for foam shields & regeneration) so you have to think carefully on how to use them for your own survival.
Really the combat in this game works with a balance of offense and defense, you sometimes need to attack relentlessly to get rid of nastier foes.
The exploration factor of this game is really nice and your movement options serve only to enhance this with little offscreen secrets such as items/spells.
Environments are pretty massive to put it lightly and there& #39;s a good chance you& #39;ll get lost in some.
Visually this game is quite the leap from the first and the oppressive palettes and pixelated high contrast texturing plays itself even stronger than in the original and I absolutely love that stuff with a passion!
Music was also a huge upgrade, a lot more chill and less chaotic
The writing isn& #39;t randomized like it was in the first so it has lost that esoteric touch in a way but it still yanks words from thesaurus like there& #39;s no tomorrow!
And better yet there& #39;s more interaction with your party and other characters.
I could go on and on but man this thread has gotten massive so I& #39;ll cut it short by saying I really had a fun time with Hylics 2.

I absolutely needed the dissociative world and setting to just vibe out in.
