You can attend powwows and join in dances if they allow you to. You can wear native stuff but only if it’s ribbon shirts/skirts, native made beadwork, or bought from native owned places. Many of our tribes love sharing our culture with non-natives but YOU HAVE A LIMIT.
That means NO elementary feather headbands, headdresses, sexualized buckskin dresses, BURNING SAGE, claiming spirit animals, calling your groups tribes, walmart tipis, cheaply made dreamcatchers, stealing traditional designs, and tribal tattoos.
We have so much we would love to share with you but you have to treat us with respect and know your limit! We still are alive and a lot of us still speak our languages and practice our tradition. Please just respect all indigenous people and our culture.
We’re also not all from the place area or tribe so don’t assume we know everything about other natives especially when it’s not in our specific culture.
