OK, hope you'll indulge me on a couple thoughts on the new information that has come to light on the Bubba Wallace story and how I have behaved on this sight in reaction to it.
NASCAR's statement on Sunday was eye-opening. They didn't react to a media report or rumor. They, as an organization, took the lead in saying a noose had been found in Bubba's garage area. They also said an investigation was underway. There is where I should have hit the brakes
Hindsight being 20-20, it was fair for those that were asking for more. Especially with the cameras and protocol in place in that area. It seemed like an issue that could be cleared up in a short period of time.
In the meantime, I exchanged some snarky tweets with @Zigmanfreud among others. I regret this. Not for defending Bubba or some of the points I made, but what's the point? Why bother with a guy like that? Hope you are enjoying the victory lap, John.
It's a good lesson on how fast society moves today and sometimes it is best to stand on the shore and watch the river flow instead of jumping in head first. As we know now, this wasn't a complete puzzle we were opining on.
I do not regret standing up for Bubba. There were still fans with confederate flags outside Talladega on Sunday and the plane that flew overhead with a confederate banner. The show of support he got from all the drivers was awe inspiring when they saw one of their own hurting.
Anyway, you live and learn. I'm a radio host/columnist and will still share those opinions here. I do enjoy the banter on this site with as nutty as it can get at times. I apologize for my immature behavior and will do my best to take a breath in the future when sharing. Onward.
