Let me give you all some context on “Sundown Towns.” I will be using this article as a source text so you can read for yourself and educate others! Okay, buckle up and let’s go!

In Sundown Towns, Black people were forcibly removed & excluded by white residents. Physical threats& intimidation, like the burning of crosses & the homes of minorities , were used to initiate the dispersion of any minority resident and warn off future black residents.

Sundown towns emerged around 1890 but white Americans continued adding to their numbers as late as 1940. This timing was the white response to the end of reconstruction and blacks during the great migration. Want to know what else went up during this time? CONFEDERATE MONUMENTS!

Specifically the ROBERT E LEE monument on monument Ave.
