DOJ whistleblower John Elias says Barr wasted 29% of antitrust department's resources on pointless, harassing cannabis investigations.

"While these were nominally antitrust investigations, and used antiT investigative authorities, they were not bona fide antiT investigations."
Barr overrode career staff and dropped subpoenas on two cannabis cos seeking to merge.

"The rationale for doing so centered not on an antitrust analysis, but because he did not like the nature of their underlying business."
Barr deliberately bled cannabis cos with harassing doc requests.

"Staff sought to make the investigation less burdensome on the parties by narrowing the subpoenas. Political leadership refused such requests, resulting in the
document productions described below."
Sometimes the DOJ didn't even bother to read the documents.

"Few of these documents were viewed by Division staff. In one case, Div records show that the investigation closing process began before the documents had been uploaded and made available for viewing by Div staff."
Barr was so obsessed with marijuana companies that he devoted most of Antitrust Div resources to it and pulled staff from "telecommunications , technology , and media
offices" to help.

Your tax dollars at work!
The very day after Trump sh*t-tweeted about CA efficiency standards, the DOJ opened an investigation into possible collusion by automakers.

What a coincidence! https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1164311594081247233?s=20
When the anti-trust case against the car companies fell apart, the line attorneys were instructed to go after California. Because how dare they only buy low-emitting vehicles for their state fleet. UNLEGAL!
Here's the link to Elias's opening statement. It's not as easy to follow as Zelinsky's, but it's still pretty shocking.

And here's my Zelinsky thread (which I spelled Zelensky, because hurrdurr). Elias and Zelinsky are testifying before the House Judiciary Committee tomorrow at 12. Should be wild! https://twitter.com/5DollarFeminist/status/1275516973162643457?s=20
