Sean Davis thread:

He's solid as a single-high safety but struggles when he's asked to play closer to the line of scrimmage

- When lined up as a deep safety (779 snaps): 76.4 coverage grade, 27.8% forced inc
- Lined up elsewhere (182 snaps): 52.6 coverage grade, 7.7% forced inc
Here he is as the single-high safety in cover 3.

He's put in a really tough spot here with two vertical routes running right at him but does a great job reading the QB and making a play on this ball.
On this play, he's the deep safety in cover 1

He does a good job of realizing where this ball is going and making a straight break to get there as soon as the ball hits the WR's hands.
Again, he's lined up as the deep safety and does a good job tracking this ball to make the interception
Here he's asked to step up and cover the RB out of the backfield. He takes a poor angle and can't make the play, resulting in a big play for the Saints.
Missed tackles are also a bit of a concern. In 2018, his last full season, he had 12 missed tackles which were tied for 14th most among all safeties.

He's in a good spot to make the play but misses the tackle, resulting in a 1st down.
Here he is again moving closer to the line of scrimmage. He's in the right position, pursues too hard and misses the tackle.
I was pleasantly surprised when watching Davis. He's a reliable deep safety in single high coverages that can make some plays.

While he does struggle a bit playing closer to the line of scrimmage, he shouldn't be asked to do that too often with Collins opposite of him.
