I still don't know how best to articulate this, it's such a close and raw subject for me and a lot of people close to me, but I am waving my hands and yelling that you can't tackle these workplace issues solely w/ tweaks to culture and who gets to be the boss https://twitter.com/_chloi/status/1275512237340258304
what lena said https://twitter.com/mechapoetic/status/1274798619871281153
to really change all this you need fundamental changes to who has power in the workplace and working relationships, who has the leverage, who has the safety net and backup. i want that power destroyed and redistributed, i want people to be able to punch back confidently, together
and sorry, but i've seen more than my share of very loudly progressive allies who aren't men be incentivized or forced or just be downright eager in the first place to protect those structures, because paychecks and rent and careers and hey look it's that same issue again
anyway I've written and deleted like 6 threads on this over the past few months b/c I don't know how best to explain it, also I'm not a professional explainer, whatever. who knows if this one will stay up.
if you want to actually help victims of abuse in the workplace and working relationships, from harassment to assault to coercion to perfectly legally explainable punishments for not complying, you're going to have to understand it as a labor issue at some point. clock's ticking.
"but that won't solve everything!!" no shit. but it's something we have to tackle on the way to doing anything.
so much of my uh "militancy" for however militant it actually is comes from decades of watching this play out at job after job and working relationship after working relationship, both in my life and others. i don't give enough of a shit anymore to avoid the topic. who cares.
i'm an extremely chill and affable dude except for like the half dozen things i'm perpetually angry about.
